Mbappe blames PSG for letting Messi leave

"We're talking about Messi. He's one of the greatest players in football history. It's never good news when someone like Messi leaves. Mbappe and Messi played together for two seasons at PSG, but their relationship was based on mutual respect and was not close off the field. There is only one thing in common between Mbappe and Messi at PSG, which is that both have an option to extend for another season. However, both chose not to extend.

PSG had previously sought to extend Messi's contract with a verbal agreement before the 2022 World Cup. However, in February 2023, the Argentine superstar refused to negotiate a contract extension because the Paris club had not yet shown a viable project for the next season. The French club's management also changed their mind about Messi. Therefore, Messi finally chose to leave and go to Inter Miami in the MLS (USA) instead of returning to his old club Barcelona.

Recently, Mbappe also confirmed that he did not negotiate an extension with PSG and had shown this a year ago. "I did not ask to leave PSG or join Real Madrid. I just told the club that I will not activate the contract extension option until June 2025. We have never discussed a new deal with PSG, but I am happy to stay here next season," Mbappe shared in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport .
