For the past eight years, Time Out has been searching for the coolest neighbourhoods in the world’s most exciting cities. These are the places where nightlife, art, culture and affordable food can be found on every corner and in every laneway. They are also the neighbourhoods where diversity is celebrated and independent businesses thrive, from classic hangouts to the latest avant-garde art spaces. Put simply, the coolest neighbourhoods in the world are those that represent the soul of their cities, while still retaining a unique local character that attracts people to live, work and play.

From various nominations around the world, Time Out ranks each neighbourhood according to criteria including culture, community, liveability, nightlife, cuisine , street life...
With all those criteria, it is surprising that not Bui Vien Western Street, or Ta Hien Beer Street, but a seemingly quieter neighborhood in the center of Ho Chi Minh City, on the other side of the East gate of Ben Thanh Market, was ranked 11th in the list by the British newspaper.
This is the area of the old Nguyen Thai Binh ward, now merged into the two wards of Saigon and Ben Thanh, including beautiful routes such as Le Cong Kieu, Nguyen Thi Hong Gam, Ky Con, Yersin, Pho Duc Chinh... or the street named after Nguyen Thai Binh ward. "It looks like any urban street in Vietnam with lots of workshops, motorbikes and steaming pots of broth. But this neighborhood will reward those who are willing to explore. In the basement, after dark, behind secret rolling shutters and the facades of French colonial buildings, you will find world-famous restaurants and secret pubs - while the most persistent can unearth authentic wartime memorabilia in the messy antique markets", Time Out shared. The change of the neighborhood is most evident in the caliber of new culinary and entertainment addresses, such as Leonardo - one of the city's best pizza places or ÔMM Mixology - praised as a top bar. Perhaps most interestingly, the popular Noriboi Omakase moved here earlier this year from Thao Dien (a neighborhood that also made the list last year).

Time Out suggests: Get up early to avoid the long queues at Phan Rang crab noodle soup, where locals fuel up for the day with steaming bowls of noodles. Next, stop at the cute, retro Hoang Thi Cafe before exploring the antique shops on Le Cong Kieu Street and the traditional market. For lunch, head to Mother In's Kitchen for simple, delicious Vietnamese home cooking, then spend the afternoon at the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum. Start the evening right at the bars or book a table at one of the established restaurants. Finish the evening at The Arth, relaxing to live saxophone music near the metro station.
