Opening the workshop, Vice President of VCCI Vo Tan Thanh affirmed: For many years, VCCI has been persistently and persistently implementing many activities to create and promote a favorable, safe, equal, and environmentally friendly business environment for the business community. This workshop is organized to support the improvement of the investment and business environment in the region; exchange and discuss good practices in environmental management, and promote green growth.
At the discussion session on the Provincial Green Index (PGI) and improving the quality of environmental governance towards sustainable development, Deputy Head of the VCCI Legal Department Pham Ngoc Thach presented the report "Improving the quality of environmental governance towards sustainable development: Business environment in the Central Coast region and issues arising for economic development associated with environmental protection".
The report briefly describes the characteristics of the Central Coast's business environment from the 2023 Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI): The quality of economic management tends to improve; the region is the leading region in terms of market entry components; support programs related to FTAs (free trade agreements that Vietnam participates in) are bright spots...
However, access to land remains a difficult story. The efficiency of administrative procedures is not high, the burden of inspection and examination for businesses still exists. Localities need to continue to make efforts to reduce informal costs for businesses and maintain and promote the dynamism and pioneering of the government apparatus...
The report recorded the TOP 5 positions of localities in a number of PGI categories such as pollution and disaster reduction (Da Nang ranked 5th), compliance ( Quang Nam , Binh Thuan ranked 2nd, 3rd), promoting green practices (Da Nang, Ha Tinh ranked 1st and 5th).
The recommendations are: Minimizing unnecessary burdens on businesses when inspecting and auditing the environment; building and implementing more effective policies to support and encourage green investment, including businesses enjoying policy incentives, benefiting from environmental management consulting services and training services when making green investments.
The workshop heard experts present on green transformation and issues facing provincial authorities; economic growth and environmental issues – challenges for the Central Coast; and listened to practical sharing and experiences of provinces, cities, businesses, and investors on improving the business environment, moving towards a green economy and sustainable development.
