Na Ri urgently overcomes flood damage

Never in the memory of the people of Na Ri commune has the water risen so high and poured in so quickly. In just one night, heavy rain from the circulation of storm No. 11 caused the Ta Pin and Bac Giang rivers to overflow their banks, almost submerging the wholesale market, schools, and hundreds of houses. After the flood, the residential area and the agricultural wholesale market became a mess of mud. The recovery work is being urgently carried out.

At Na Ri wholesale market, once the busiest place in the area, after the flood, many rows of stalls collapsed, goods mixed with mud. Everywhere was the smell of mold, garbage, the sound of people cleaning mixed with choked sobs.

Mrs. Tran Thi Lanh, a small business owner who has been selling here for nearly 40 years, was crying while washing her soaked clothes. She said: “The flood came very quickly, in just a moment the water was up to her chest. Goods, clothes, and furniture were all swept away and ruined. I have never seen the water rise so fast.”

Mr. Hoang Minh Giap, a wholesale market trader, said with a trembling voice: I was born here and have never seen anything like this in decades. The water rose so fast that I couldn’t run away. It rushed in like a flood. All the goods were submerged. Luckily, my house is made of aluminum and plastic, so it wasn’t affected much, but the stalls selling fabric and paper were all destroyed.

According to Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Director of Na Ri Market Joint Stock Company, the damage this time is very heavy. The market has more than 160 business households. The rain and floods caused the market to be deeply flooded, because the water rose too quickly, so there was no time to move equipment and goods. The company is mobilizing all human resources to coordinate with the government to support people in cleaning up, to restore operations as soon as possible.

Arriving at Yen Lac village, we saw traces of the flood still clearly on the walls of the houses of the households, the water was higher than the head of the people. The belongings were scattered, the households were divided, some stayed at home, some went to the market, to save what they could.

Yen Lac village chief Nguyen Duc Thinh recounted: The water rose very quickly. My brothers and I had to knock on every door, calling on people to flee the flood. The elderly moved to higher houses for temporary shelter. The whole village had more than 200 households flooded, many of which had to be evacuated urgently at night.

After the flood, when people returned, they were left with only mud, rubbish and damaged furniture. Some houses were under construction and the materials could not be moved in time, so the damage after the flood was quite large. Some households were flooded up to the roof, and countless electrical appliances and furniture were damaged. However, in the midst of these difficulties, they still worked together to overcome them and gradually stabilize their lives.

As soon as the water receded, the People's Committee of Na Ri commune established 4 working groups to go to heavily flooded areas, mobilizing all militia forces, union members, youth... to help people clean up, collect garbage, and disinfect the environment.

Ms. Bui Thi Thu, Vice Chairwoman of Na Ri Commune People's Committee, said: In the immediate future, the commune is focusing on helping people clean up mud and soil, restore schools, markets and severely damaged households. In addition, it is implementing disinfection measures to ensure the environment and prevent and control epidemics...

After days of mud and flooding, the Party Committee, the government and the people are joining hands to overcome the situation. In the midst of difficulties, the people of Na Ri still maintain their determination and faith. The historic flood will still be remembered as a sad memory, but also as a testament to the resilience and solidarity of the people here.
