Heavy rain in the South over the weekend

TPO – The Meteorological Agency forecasts that during the weekend, the Southern region and Ho Chi Minh City will have rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms, with some places having heavy to very heavy rain (rain concentrated in the late afternoon and night).

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, in the past 24 hours, the Southern region has had widespread rain, with some places experiencing moderate to heavy rain.

Rainfall recorded from 1am on July 17 to 1am on July 18 in some places as follows: Vien An - Ca Mau 56.8mm, Nui Sap - An Giang 56.0mm, Hon Lon Island - Kien Giang 51.4mm, Cai Be - Tien Giang 51.0mm, Ka Tum - Tay Ninh 38.0mm, Rach Goi - Hau Giang 37.4mm, Xuyen Moc - Vung Tau 20.6mm.

From July 18 to July 20, the Southern region is forecast to have widespread rain, with some places experiencing moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, and some areas experiencing very heavy rain. Total rainfall in 48 hours is commonly 30-90mm, with some places experiencing over 100mm.

Widespread rain in the Southern region is likely to last for the next 1-3 days.

Thunderstorms may produce tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. Beware of heavy rain causing flooding in low-lying areas, riverside areas, and canals.

Regarding the weather forecast for the Ho Chi Minh City area in the coming days, the Southern Hydrometeorological Station said that the southwest monsoon is currently operating at an average intensity, with a tendency to gradually increase in intensity from July 20.

It is forecasted that in the coming days, the HCMC area will continue to have rain with a probability of 70-80%. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Beware of the possibility of heavy rain causing localized flooding.
