South Africa improves airport infrastructure

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), which owns and operates South Africa's nine main airports, has invested more than 21 billion rand (about $1.12 billion) to develop airport infrastructure over the next five years, said South African Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga.

The investment is primarily for refurbishment, efficiency improvements and regulatory compliance measures, to enhance asset availability, airport safety and passenger experience at South African airports.

Ms Chikunga also announced that ACSA is set to embark on the development of a new cargo terminal at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, the largest and busiest international airport in Africa. Infrastructure expansion projects will also be implemented at other South African airports, including those in Durban, George, Cape Town and Gqeberha, to improve the capacity and efficiency of these facilities.
