According to Mr. Duc, the family let K. go to school a few hours a day so that his mind could be at ease in his treatment, get to know his friends without setting the goal of academic results. The school agreed with this method.

"K.'s physical condition is not as healthy as other children. During this time, K. came to school to reintegrate, create a harmonious and friendly atmosphere, and also to give his friends a chance to correct their mistakes. This morning, during the time preparing to end the 4th period, I happened to go down to the multi-purpose room and saw him playing badminton with his friends, playing very focusedly," said Mr. Duc.

Mr. Duc assessed that K.'s return to school was a good sign. In class, K. still took notes normally. "We hope that K.'s health and spirit will gradually stabilize," Mr. Duc added.

Faced with the huge expenses that K.'s family is worried about having to pay for their child, Mr. Duc affirmed that the families of the male students who beat K. have pledged to support K. in treatment, medicine, transportation... until he is stable.

A wake-up call about school violence

Lawyer Dang Van Cuong, member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Association for the Protection of Children's Rights, said that in the above case, the parents of the student who beat their friend must be responsible for compensating for all damages caused to the victim. Damages include medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, caregiver wages, and other damages incurred during the examination and treatment of K.

The moment K. was attacked by a group of friends

All children are victims of school violence. Not only are the children who are beaten and psychologically traumatized victims, but the children who commit acts of violence against their friends are also victims of school violence.

According to Mr. Cuong, students are victims of lack of education , lack of care from parents, lack of responsibility from teachers, and lack of responsibility from educational institutions. This lack of responsibility leads to students acting without awareness, violating the health of other students. This is a wake-up call for the complicated situation of school violence in the current period.

In addition to considering the responsibility of parents, educational institutions and students who caused the incident, authorities also need to clarify the causes and conditions for committing illegal acts in order to implement active preventive solutions.

"Parents need to learn lessons in managing and protecting their children. Teachers and school leaders need to learn from this incident. Authorities will consider the responsibility of the head and class teachers when school violence occurs with such serious consequences," Mr. Cuong added.

The family determined that K. needed long-term treatment.

According to the report of the Department of Education and Training of Thach That District, during the summer vacation of the 2022-2023 school year until last September, K. was beaten many times by classmates in and out of school. Because he was afraid of his classmates, K. did not report the incident to his teachers and parents. It was not until September 16 that his family and school learned of the incident.

The homeroom teacher identified 6 students who beat K., causing him to have a swollen head and bruises on his body. On September 20, Dai Dong Secondary School held a disciplinary meeting to discipline the students who beat their friend. The students and their families also admitted their mistakes.

On September 21, K. showed signs of abnormal health, so his family took him to Phuc Tho District General Hospital ( Hanoi ) for treatment; on September 22, he was allowed to return home.

On September 25, K. went to school but was threatened by a friend in the group of students who had beaten him. K. showed signs of panic. The family took K. to the National Children's Hospital (Hanoi) for treatment. The examination results showed that K. had a dissociative disorder.

At the end of October, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach That District requested a review of the responsibility of the Board of Directors of Dai Dong Secondary School and the leaders of the People's Committee of Dai Dong Commune in managing order in the area, the school, and students when K. was abused, leading to psychological trauma.
