Activities carried out: conference "Cancer Genetics"; scientific seminars; intensive extracurricular training on genetic counseling... Many leading experts with updated reports and more than 800 domestic doctors, medical staff ; foreign experts attended.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death globally. In addition to environmental risk factors, some genetic mutations may be passed down through generations in families, increasing the risk of cancer. People who have been identified as carriers of hereditary cancer genes should be managed, screened according to a separate program and counseled on interventions to reduce the risk of the disease.

In addition, some hereditary cancers can be effectively treated with appropriate targeted therapies. Cancers that have been identified as being linked to inherited gene mutations, the most common of which is the BRCA1/2 gene, are diseases with increasing incidence and mortality rates each year.

According to data from the Global Cancer Registry (GLOBOCAN 2022), each year in Vietnam there are: breast cancer: 24,563 new cases, 10,008 deaths; ovarian cancer: 1,534 new cases, 1,003 deaths; prostate cancer: 5,875 new cases, 2,800 deaths; pancreatic cancer: 1,251 new cases, 1,226 deaths.

The rate of carrying inherited genetic mutations (also known as germline mutations) BRCA1/2 in cancer diseases recorded in medical literature is: ovarian carcinoma (about 15%), triple-negative breast cancer (10 - 17%), hormone receptor-positive breast cancer (6%), prostate cancer (5 - 10%), pancreatic carcinoma (5 - 7%).

This situation requires that the management and improvement of the quality of diagnosis and treatment of genetic cancer be promoted and prioritized more in the coming time, in order to detect the disease, intervene promptly, and treat effectively.
