Increase income, build new advanced rural areas

In 2022, after many efforts to overcome difficulties to implement the criteria, Cu Thang commune, Thanh Son district was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as meeting new rural standards. After being recognized as meeting new rural standards, the local Party Committee and government determined to continue to work on perfecting and improving the achieved indicators and criteria to build advanced new rural areas, the most important of which is to increase income for local people.

The model of growing Dien grapefruit according to VietGAP standards of Cu Thang Dien grapefruit cooperative brings high economic efficiency, contributing to increasing income for members.

Comrade Dang Quoc Bao - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: "To continue building advanced new rural areas, the local Party Committee and government always identify increasing income for people as a key factor. Therefore, in addition to building and replicating production models, the commune also encourages businesses to invest in building local production facilities to create jobs for people; create conditions for people to learn a trade and export labor to increase income. Currently, there are 7 stable businesses in the commune, creating jobs for hundreds of local workers. In 2024, the commune will have 45 more workers employed locally, 17 cases of labor export, exceeding the set plan. The rate of poor households according to multidimensional standards last year decreased by 6 households, near-poor households according to multidimensional standards decreased by 15 households towards sustainable poverty reduction. The average income of people in the commune reached 42 million VND/person/year, an increase of 5% compared to 2018. 2023”.

Identifying agriculture as the main production direction for economic development and increasing income for local people, in recent times, the Party Committee and the communal government have focused on leadership, close direction, propaganda, and mobilization of people to take advantage of land area, expand production, carry out restructuring of crops and livestock, apply scientific and technical advances, develop production towards commodities, and gradually increase food output over the years.

In addition to maintaining and developing traditional food crops, the commune has mobilized people to expand the land area for growing vegetables with high economic value; continue to consolidate land, build concentrated production areas, and specialize in growing some other crops.

Focus on investing in raising pigs, buffaloes, cows, goats, and poultry on a large scale for commercial purposes, bringing high economic efficiency. Models such as raising ostriches, pigs, large cattle, poultry, aquaculture, and fruit tree growing have promoted economic efficiency and been widely replicated.

At the same time, the commune government has created conditions for people to access preferential loans for agricultural production and small-scale industry in family economic development; encouraged people to promote local strengths in agricultural production...

Mr. Dinh Trong Vinh, owner of an ostrich farm in Tru Trong area, Cu Thang commune, shared: “After researching and realizing that raising livestock and poultry is quite popular nowadays, I decided to switch to raising ostriches. This is a type of animal that is popular in the market, easy to raise, and easy to consume. Currently, we are raising over 100 ostriches of all ages, of which 40 are old enough to be sold (weighing 90-100kg/ostrich). With an average selling price of 130,000-140,000 VND/ostrich, after deducting expenses, the profit is about 6 million VND/ostrich. Many households in the commune and neighboring communes want to learn from experience and buy breeding animals for raising, we are ready to support and introduce to product consumption units”.

In the coming time, Cu Thang will continue to promote the achieved results, especially encouraging households to support each other in developing household economy in the direction of linking and consuming products; creating conditions for businesses to invest in expanding production, creating stable jobs, contributing to increasing income for local people, gradually perfecting the criteria for building advanced new rural areas.
