During a working trip to Lam Dong province, this afternoon (March 2), Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh and Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh visited the Nuclear Research Institute (Da Lat city, Lam Dong province).

Pleased to visit the Nuclear Research Institute, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh highly appreciated the Institute's contributions to the country; at the same time acknowledged, praised and appreciated the efforts of the team of managers, scientists and staff of the Institute who have constantly strived and made efforts in their assigned work and tasks, ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the reactor as assessed by international nuclear agencies and experts.

The Institute's research applications are widely applied in many fields, especially in agriculture, health, and environment. The Institute has performed well its tasks of both basic and applied research. The Institute's research applications have made very practical contributions to many industries, fields, and social life in the context that the State's investment in the Institute is not really large and not really systematic.

The Permanent Deputy Prime Minister said that recently, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 57 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation. The Resolution has received special attention from society, especially from the scientific and research community, and is highly appreciated. The Resolution is considered a breakthrough, a boost, an important driving force to promote socio-economic development through a series of policies to remove difficulties for scientific research, promote commercialization of scientific research results, build a legal framework and financial mechanisms, attract investment for scientific research, etc.

In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the political determination of our Party and State is to strive to achieve the target of continuous double-digit growth in the years of the coming term. The demand for electricity for our growth is very large, by 2030 there will be a shortage of about 70,000 MW, almost equal to the scale of electricity we have generated up to now. Therefore, the development of power sources, especially renewable energy, of which nuclear energy is the base energy, is very necessary and a practical requirement to ensure 8% growth in 2025 and double digits in the coming period.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh hopes that the team of managers, scientists and staff of the Institute will continue to strive, make breakthroughs and grow stronger in performing the functions and tasks of the Institute; constantly improve the capacity and ability to research and develop applications approaching the level of advanced and modern international nuclear technology.

The Nuclear Research Institute was renamed from the Dalat Nuclear Research Institute, established under Decision No. 59-CP dated February 23, 1979 of the Government Council.

The Institute is a public science and technology organization, operating under a mechanism of partial autonomy in regular expenditures, with the task of managing, safely operating and effectively exploiting the Dalat Nuclear Reactor and scientific and technological equipment managed by the Institute to serve scientific research, technology development, human resource training, and technical support for state management in the field of atomic energy application.

At the same time, carry out production and business tasks, provide products and services from research results; import and export materials, equipment, radioactive isotopes and radioactive sources to serve the activities within the assigned functions and tasks; cooperate in joint ventures and associations with domestic and foreign agencies and organizations in fields related to the functions and tasks of the Institute to promote the transfer and exchange of technological processes and products of the Institute with production facilities, research and training organizations. The Institute participates in postgraduate training at the doctoral training facility of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute.

Over the past time, the Institute has implemented many technical support projects and research contracts of the IAEA and its partners. The projects focus on areas such as upgrading reactor technology systems and reactor fuel conversion; upgrading and developing equipment for neutron activation analysis and nuclear physics research; upgrading pharmaceutical production technology lines; manufacturing nuclear electronic equipment; promoting research and applications in the fields of radiation technology, biotechnology, radiation safety, radioactive waste treatment, environmental research, etc.

The Institute also actively participates in other multilateral cooperations, such as the Asia-Pacific Regional Cooperation (RCA), the Nuclear Forum for Asia (FNCA) and bilateral cooperation with DOE national laboratories (USA), specialized training programs with BARC (India), with NuHRDeC/JAEA (Japan), with KAERI (Korea)...

Every year, the Institute coordinates the organization of many international seminars and specialized training courses, focusing on training courses on radiation safety, reactor technology, application of nuclear techniques in industry and environment, environmental radiation monitoring, response to radiation and nuclear incidents, etc.
