According to fishermen's experience, after a storm or tropical depression passes, the sea surface becomes calm and clear again, and shrimp appear in large numbers. These days, fishermen in the coastal area of Quynh Luu are excited to start the shrimp season. Photo: Thanh Phuc From dawn, Quynh Bang beach became bustling, fishermen gathered to rake shrimp. This year, after the flood, the strong sunshine caused shrimp to multiply a lot, drifting close to the shore. Photo: Thanh Phuc The shrimp raking tool is a large shrimp rake, with a rim with a mouth diameter of 40-50 cm, attached to a 2-3 m long rake rod. The rake net has thick mesh and is nearly 1 m long. On days when there is a lot of shrimp, it takes about 45-60 minutes for fishermen to scoop up a heavy batch of shrimp. Photo: Thanh Phuc Nguyen Huu Thuoc, a fisherman in Quynh Bang commune, said: "Sea shrimp are available all year round, but the season for harvesting sea shrimp along the coast is only from the 6th to the 9th lunar month. Shrimp are not available every day, but depend on the tide. If the water is clear, they will come ashore and fishermen can dig them up. If the water is turbid, they will stay offshore and we have to use boats to catch them." When first scooped up, the fresh pink te shrimp sparkles under the sunlight. Photo: Thanh Phuc This year, shrimp harvest is good and prices are high, so fishermen are very excited. Some days, each fisherman can catch 80-100kg of shrimp, bringing in an income of 1-1.2 million VND/day. Photo: Thanh Phuc Traders from all over come to buy shrimp. The price of shrimp ranges from 12,000 to 15,000 VND/kg. The traders buy all the shrimp they catch. Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, a shrimp buyer from Quang Binh, said: "Every day I buy over 10 tons of shrimp to make shrimp paste and fish feed."
