Nghe An: Coastal localities of Dien Chau and Tan Mai urgently evacuate thousands of people from dangerous areas.

Faced with the complicated developments of storm No. 5, the authorities and people of Dien Chau commune, Tan Mai ward (Nghe An) are focusing on prevention work, especially evacuating people from dangerous areas, ensuring the safety of life and property.

Dien Chau commune evacuated 751 people to safe shelters.

As soon as information about the movement of storm No. 5 was received, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Dien Chau commune held an urgent meeting, thoroughly emphasizing the spirit of "not being subjective". Coastal hamlets in old communes such as Dien Ngoc, Dien Bich, ... were identified as key areas for people to be evacuated.

In the old Dien Bich commune - where hundreds of households live along the sea dike, the authorities made a list of households that needed to be relocated on the afternoon of August 24. Mr. Nguyen Van Loi, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: "We identified the relocation as the number 1 task. The first priority is households in vulnerable areas, temporary houses, and boats moored near the estuary. The commune has mobilized all forces of the youth union, militia, and commune police to support people in transporting belongings, bringing the elderly and children to safety."

Accordingly, Dien Chau commune has arranged 2 locations: Dien Bich Secondary School and Dien Bich Primary School as concentrated shelters. These locations are fully prepared with lighting, clean water, emergency food and medical equipment.

Records from the morning of August 25 showed that hundreds of households in coastal areas had been evacuated to safe shelters, mainly the elderly and children, who had arrived early. Youth union members helped set up beds, spread mats, and guided people to settle down.

Ms. Ngo Thi Thuy, in Hai Bac hamlet, emotionally shared: "Every year when storms come, I worry, but this time the commune government proactively encouraged us to move early. Being taken to a solid place, with officers on duty, makes us feel much more secure."

To assist the people in their relocation, Dien Chau commune mobilized all its officers, police officers, soldiers, militia, and youth union members to directly visit each household. The degraded level 4 houses and houses located close to the sea were given priority for relocation.

Along with the evacuation, the commune authorities also inspected and reinforced schools, health stations, and cultural houses; prepared rescue vehicles, canoes, life jackets, and flashlights. The commune medical force was assigned to be on duty 24/7 at the gathering points to promptly handle any health incidents.

Mr. Nguyen Van Loi - Chairman of Dien Chau Commune People's Committee emphasized: "Many years of experience show that if people are left in dangerous areas, the consequences will be very serious. Therefore, the commune's guiding viewpoint is to evacuate completely, not leaving any households behind. In particular, it is necessary to ensure the temporary accommodation and living conditions of the people, so that people can safely avoid the storm."

Thanks to the initiative, up to this point, the entire Dien Chau commune has evacuated nearly 242 households with 751 people out of the danger zone. The evacuated households are from Hai Bac and Chien Thang hamlets... The shelters are all fully equipped with necessities, drinking water, and loudspeaker systems that continuously update weather information for people to grasp.

Storm No. 5 is forecast to cause heavy rains and strong winds when it makes landfall, with a high risk of flooding and coastal landslides. The Dien Chau Commune government has developed a contingency plan: preparing food reserves and rescue vehicles; establishing mobile shock troops, ready to respond when needed - Mr. Nguyen Van Loi, Chairman of the Dien Chau Commune People's Committee affirmed.

On the evening of August 24, facing the complicated and dangerous developments of storm No. 5, Tan Mai ward mobilized all its forces and urgently carried out the evacuation of people in high-risk areas, especially single-parent households, the elderly and disadvantaged families in the old Quynh Di area.

With the spirit of “leaving no one behind”, police officers and soldiers, along with the Front Committees of all blocs, enthusiastically supported people to evacuate to safe storm shelters. Many single-parent families were helped to arrange their belongings, transport essential items and take them to solid locations for temporary shelter.

The leaders of the Ward People's Committee coordinated with the Ward Police force to directly inspect and direct response plans, ensuring absolute safety for the people.

In Dong Minh and Tan Minh blocks (former Quynh Lap commune) - areas forecasted to be at risk of being directly affected by the storm, the work of evacuating people and property was carried out urgently, scientifically , ensuring absolute safety. Many families were supported to move to schools and solid cultural houses for temporary shelter. The forces also helped people move their belongings and vehicles, minimizing damage when the storm made landfall.

Thanks to the urgent and drastic intervention, by the night of the same day, the evacuation work was basically completed, creating trust and peace of mind for people in the whole ward before the time when storm No. 5 is expected to directly affect.
