"We are so happy that so many family and friends can celebrate with us on this special day," Ms. Wong, 56, said on social network Instagram on March 17. The Australian foreign minister posted a photo of herself and her partner Allouache wearing wedding attire, holding a bouquet of flowers.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Ms. Wong and Ms. Allouache have been together for nearly two decades and the wedding was held at a winery in Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, on March 16. Ms. Wong is a lawmaker representing South Australia in the country's upper house.

According to AAP news agency, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and senior cabinet ministers attended the wedding. The couple's two daughters - Alexandra, 11, and Hannah, 8 - were in charge of scattering flowers during the ceremony.

A Labor Party senator since 2002, Ms. Wong is the first person of Asian descent to hold a cabinet position in Australia.

Australia allowed same-sex marriage in 2017, a milestone for a country where homosexuality was not decriminalised in all states until 1997.

On Valentine's Day (February 14), 61-year-old Prime Minister Albanese also paused running the country to propose to his girlfriend, Jodie Haydon.

Mr Albanese announced the engagement on February 15 with a selfie of him and Ms Haydon, captioned “She said yes” on social media. In the photo, Ms Haydon is wearing an engagement ring that her fiancé helped design, according to Reuters.

Cabinet ministers took to social media to congratulate the Australian prime minister, with Foreign Minister Wong, who has known Mr Albanese for decades, writing in a social media post that “love is a beautiful thing”.
