Japan enrolls foreigners in pension system

According to the Mainichi newspaper, next October, the Japanese Ministry of Health , Labor and Welfare will carry out a plan to upgrade Japan's pension service system, aiming to collect data on foreigners living in the country.

It is understood that these efforts are aimed at ensuring that all foreign residents in Japan pay insurance premiums and enjoy social security benefits.

If the foreign resident has not registered in the system, the Ministry will send a letter requesting them to register. Then, if there is no response, the Ministry will have the authority to register that person's information in the system.

All people aged 20 to 59 residing in Japan must enroll in the country's pension system, regardless of nationality. Once enrolled, they will be eligible to receive pension payments from age 65.

Starting from April 2024, the national pension contribution amount is 16,980 yen/month (more than 2.7 million VND).

According to the Immigration Services Agency, as of the end of December 2023, there were 3.4 million foreigners living in Japan, up 10.9% from the previous year.
