Festival of reading culture in the capital

Delegates visited the booth introducing publications at the Book Fair.

On the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the Liberation Day of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2025), on the evening of October 3, at the walking space around Hoan Kiem Lake (Hoan Kiem Ward, Hanoi), the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports opened the 10th Hanoi Book Fair in 2025 with the theme "Thang Long - Hanoi - Aspiration to rise".

For many years, the Hanoi Book Fair has become a prestigious annual reading cultural event, held on the occasion of the Capital Liberation Day. This is a festival of culture and knowledge, a meeting place for publishers, authors, and readers, contributing to the propaganda of the historical, cultural, and revolutionary traditions of the nation, and the pride of the tradition of the thousand-year-old capital.

Although today's media are increasingly diverse, books and reading culture still hold an important position, always being an invaluable source of knowledge, a means and a tool to create world awareness.

This year's Book Fair brings readers new experiences with digital transformation applications in publishing and cultural industry activities, along with a beautifully designed and impressive space where readers and visitors will learn about publications, about Thang Long - Hanoi, about the tradition of education and examinations, famous scholars, focusing on the thousand-year-old Thang Long Bookcase, the electronic version of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam Bookcase, multi-function books, interactive Q&A with the AI Turtle, experience virtual reality technology, interactive GIS applications to look up information about the latest 34 provinces and cities, view digital maps conveniently...

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Truong Viet Dung emphasized: "Developing reading culture, especially reading culture accompanying science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, is a practical task and action to build the capital Hanoi "Cultured - Civilized - Modern", contributing to concretizing the goal of building Hanoi into a center of convergence and promotion of cultural values, creating endogenous strength for sustainable development as Resolution No. 15-NQ/TW of the Politburo has proposed: "Focus on developing the capital's culture worthy of the thousand-year tradition of Thang Long - Hanoi; building Hanoi to truly be a center of convergence, crystallization of the culture of the whole country, becoming a new development resource for the capital".

On this occasion, Hanoi city launched and called on publishers, book companies in the city, units participating in the Book Fair and readers to respond to the activity of donating books to public libraries in the capital to contribute to arousing passion and reading habits in the community, promoting the spirit of self-study and lifelong learning.

Responding to the call of the Hanoi People's Committee, many publishing units, readers, individuals and organizations in the area joined hands and contributed to support this meaningful program with an amount of 100 million VND.

This year's book fair brings together many famous publishers and businesses in the field of cultural publishing.

During the Hanoi Book Fair, there are many author exchange activities and thematic discussions with famous writers, listening to sharing and discovering new perspectives on culture, history and life.

There are also many creative check-in spaces, impressively designed, bearing the mark of Hanoi past and present, promising to become an attractive destination for people and tourists to visit and experience. The book fair will take place until October 5.
