More than 100 schools in Scotland and 30 in England have been closed as a cold front from the Arctic is forecast to hit the UK this week, which could cause travel chaos.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice in Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of England and Wales. Temperatures are forecast to drop to -15°C in Scotland, according to forecasts.
Meanwhile, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is maintaining an amber health alert across the UK until midday on January 19, warning that cold weather could affect people's health. UKHSA expert Agostinho Sousa said that this week's low temperatures could increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes and respiratory infections, especially for people over 65 or those with underlying health conditions.
