According to a VNA correspondent in the UK, during the visit, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang met, received and worked with UK Foreign Office Minister Seema Malhotra; Speaker of the UK House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle; Chairwoman of the UK Civil Service Committee Baroness Stuart; and many UK leaders and financial, economic and diplomatic experts.
At the meeting with Minister of State Seema Malhotra, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang informed about the situation in Vietnam, mentioned the strategic decisions that Vietnam is implementing on renewing the growth model, developing science and technology, digital transformation, reorganizing the apparatus, two-level local government, streamlining and efficiency; the policy of the Party and Government of Vietnam to build an international financial center. He emphasized that these are areas where the UK has strengths and experience that Vietnam wants to learn from.
Ms. Semma Malhotra affirmed the friendly relationship between the two countries, saying that the UK is ready to support Vietnam in implementing strategic decisions and the issues that Vietnam is facing. The two sides pledged to cooperate for peace, friendship and common prosperity of each country as well as contribute to solving international issues.
At the meeting with Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle, the Chairman congratulated Vietnam on the great achievements it has made over the past 80 years, highly appreciated the spirit and will of the Vietnamese people in the struggle against colonialism and imperialism, for national independence and national construction, as well as overcoming difficulties and challenges to develop more and more strongly as it is today. Mr. Lindsay Hoyle highly appreciated the role, position and importance of Vietnam in the Asia-Pacific region, in multilateral mechanisms, upholding international law, actively participating in preserving and promoting peace, friendship and cooperation in the region and the world. He expressed his hope that Vietnam and the UK would upgrade their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming time to meet the aspirations and interests of the people and businesses of the two countries.
At the meeting with Chairwoman of the Civil Service Committee Baroness Stuart, the two sides wished to strengthen cooperation, share experiences in building and evaluating civil servants, and the organizational and operational model of the UK's two-tier government in the context of digital transformation and the development of artificial intelligence (AI).
During the visit, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang worked with Mr. Mark Kent, Chairman of the Vietnam-UK Friendship Network, former British Ambassador to Vietnam, and members of the Network on building an international financial center in Vietnam, green transformation, energy transformation, and enhancing people-to-people exchange between the two countries.
Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang also worked with leading British economic, financial and technological experts at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), exchanging and sharing knowledge and development experience of the UK in conjunction with the implementation of important Party resolutions on science, technology, innovation and institutional improvement. The experts proposed and advised Vietnam on international experience in the model of rapid, breakthrough, double-digit growth, associated with digital transformation, green transformation, sustainable development; institutional organization and operation of an international financial center following the British model with a long tradition, effective operation and attracting the world's leading financial corporations and investors.
He also met with the Vietnamese Intellectuals Association in the UK and Ireland (VIS), updating Vietnamese scientists in the UK on the Party and State's policies in attracting overseas intellectuals to contribute to the country's development in the new era of the nation.
Within the framework of the delegation's activities, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang attended as an honored guest and spoke at the 80th Anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in the UK with the participation of about 250 delegates including British politicians, embassies of countries and businesses from both sides; laid flowers at the tomb of German thinker Karl Marx in the cemetery in London; visited and met with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK.
