New points in the 10th grade literature exam in Hanoi in 2025

According to Ms. Dinh Thi Huong, literature teacher at Tuyensinh247, the sample exam for grade 10 of Hanoi High School closely follows the curriculum knowledge; closely follows the 2018 output standards, avoids rote learning and cramming; focuses on students' understanding of familiar but still highly topical issues; the content of the questions revolves around reading, writing and comprehension skills.

Illustrative test questions differentiate between levels, suitable for students' abilities, comprehensively assessing students' abilities.

The test matrix is ​​differentiated according to the levels of recognition (20%), understanding (40%), and application (40%).

"Hanoi's sample exam for literature has been innovated with questions requiring students to write argumentative essays. The change in the format of the exam will be a challenge for secondary school students when they have to do the test in 120 minutes, but at the same time, it will help differentiate students," said Ms. Huong.

With the new points above, according to Ms. Huong, candidates need to grasp the characteristics of each genre, practice reading comprehension skills and practice writing paragraphs and essays.

With 400 words for a social argumentative essay, students are required to know how to filter and present it in the most reasonable and complete way.

Commenting on the recently issued Hanoi literature illustration test, Mr. Nguyen Phi Hung, a literature teacher at the Hocmai education system, said that the illustration test closely follows the goals of the 2018 General Education Program for grade 9 literature.

The exam focuses on testing and evaluating students' abilities, specifically reading and writing abilities.

The reading section takes materials from texts outside the textbook, allowing assessment of students' reading ability according to each type of text, avoiding memorization, cramming, etc.

Notably, in the group of literary texts, there is no drama genre (studied in grade 9) but there is a memoir genre (studied in lower grades).

The exam structure/matrix does not mention requirements related to the Vietnamese section, but these knowledge and skill units have been integrated into the questions of the reading and writing sections.

The writing section (6 points) requires writing a literary argumentative paragraph (200 words) and a social argumentative essay (400 words). Thus, there are no narrative, explanatory, and expressive essays (taught in grade 9).

For social argumentative essays, it can be linked to the content of the reading comprehension text in the previous section. Literary argumentative essays require analysis of the excerpt in the reading section, but the topic requirements do not overlap with the content of the questions mentioned in the previous section.

Although the illustrative topic requires writing a paragraph in the literary argument section and writing an essay in the social argument section, according to Mr. Hung, this requirement can be flexibly changed when implementing the writing requirements.

In addition, reading comprehension materials and materials in literary argumentative writing do not necessarily have to be the same.
