Imprints in the houses
From temporary houses, now new, spacious and sturdy houses have grown up proudly in the middle of the mountains and forests, providing shelter for many families in the highlands. Behind those houses are the hearts, sweat and souls of the Da Nang City Police officers.
August 11, 2025 is probably an unforgettable day for Ms. Zo Ram Thien's family, when she was personally handed the key to the new house built by the City Police by Major General Nguyen Huu Hop, Director of Da Nang City Police. So the dream of her family and many other families in Pho village (Song Kon commune) has now come true. The head of the City Police force also gave her a new house as a gift with congratulations and encouragement, making Ms. Thien even more excited.
Not only Ms. Thien, but also 90 other families in the highland communes of Da Nang city received dream houses from the Da Nang City Police force before the 2025 storm season.
To achieve the results we have today, it was a long journey filled with difficulties, hardships, and determination of the officers and soldiers of the Da Nang City Police. The ideas on paper have become reality, and now looking at the houses growing firmly in the mountains and forests, the fires flickering peacefully in the laughter of children, makes the soldiers' hearts filled with emotion.
Recalling the early days of 2024, along with the competitive spirit of the entire police force towards the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Public Security's Traditional Day, the Party Committee and leaders of the Da Nang City Police have concretized the great and humane policy of the Party and Government on eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses into a revolutionary action movement in the entire city's police force. A specific plan was established, with the determination to build 90 houses for people in border communes, highland communes, and disadvantaged areas, which were inaugurated on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Public Security's Traditional Day (August 19). This is not only a political task, but also a responsibility, an order from every soldier's heart.
"When people need it, when people are in need, there is the police"
The city police have established Youth Shock Teams, mobilizing youth union members to go directly to mountainous communes, starting the journey to build the first houses.
For more than a year, the City Police organized 40 campaigns to support the construction of 40 houses in mountainous areas such as the communes of Phuoc Chanh, Phuoc Nang, Ben Hien, Song Vang, Tra Tan, Tra Lien. The unit mobilized more than 1,200 union members and youths with nearly 3,000 working days to speed up the progress and reduce labor costs for households (estimated cost is about 900 million VND).
During difficult times due to high prices of raw materials, the Commune Police mobilized benefactors and construction material businesses to sell materials to help build houses for people at original prices and support transportation (the estimated savings were nearly 300 million VND).
Major Bui Anh Duc, Head of the Youth Department of Da Nang City Police, recalled: “During the period from March to August 2025, when the final stage required speeding up the progress to complete on time, hundreds of cadres, soldiers, and youth union members of the shock teams overcame the barriers of harsh weather, dangerous roads, and difficult transportation of construction materials to reach the highland communes to dig foundations, erect frames, roof roofs, build walls, etc. to complete houses for the people in time.
At many construction sites, officers and soldiers had to carry bricks, sand, cement, and steel for kilometers to reach the construction site. With the spirit of "Where there is a need, there is a police force, where there is difficulty, there is a police force" and the command from the heart of a soldier, in less than 5 months, 40/40 houses in these 6 mountainous communes were completed (1 month ahead of schedule) to be handed over to the people in time.
On the other hand, with the support of the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade ( Vietinbank ) with an amount of 5 billion VND, in April 2025, the City Police coordinated to start building 50 new houses in the mountainous districts of Phuoc Son, Bac Tra My, Dong Giang (now the communes of Kham Duc, Phuoc Nang, Phuoc Chanh, Phuoc Hiep, Song Kon, Song Vang, Tra Tan, Tra Giap).
Da Nang City Police regularly dispatched working groups to work with the Commune Police to monitor the progress and quality of the project, mobilizing hundreds of officers and soldiers to construct houses and build roads. By mid-August 2025, 50 houses were completed on schedule and handed over to residents before the rainy season, bringing joy and excitement to the local people.
Attending the inauguration ceremony and handing over houses to people in Phuoc Nang commune, Major General Nguyen Huu Hop shared: “The project is not only a practical gift to help poor families have a solid home, contributing to stabilizing their lives, but also demonstrates the motto of the entire People's Public Security force "When the people need it, when the people have difficulty, there is the police". He emphasized: "We understand that protecting the peace of the people is not only about maintaining security and order, but also about sharing joys and sorrows with each family, each fate; the houses today are an affirmation of that spirit, the spirit of forgetting oneself for the country, serving the people".
In 3 years, from 2023 to 2025, implementing the models "August 19 House" and "Peaceful Roof", the youth of the City Police and the police of units and localities have built and repaired 31 houses for families in difficult circumstances, lonely elderly people, and households affected by natural disasters, with a total value of nearly 3 billion VND; contributing 2 days' salary to carry out the emulation movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary houses and dilapidated houses" according to the program of the Ministry of Public Security.
In the mountainous communes of Da Nang city, which are still facing many difficulties, sturdy houses are not only a place to shelter from the rain and sun, but also a belief, a support to work and raise children with peace of mind. And behind those houses, there are the hearts, sweat and responsibility of the police officers, who have turned the Party and Government's policy of eliminating temporary houses into reality right in the middle of the mountains.
