With perseverance and active learning to transform production towards linkage, in Vinh Linh district, many farmers have successfully established their businesses with a comprehensive farm model. One example is Mr. Le Phuoc Tuan (born in 1981), in Huu Nghi quarter, Ho Xa town, who is currently the owner of a comprehensive farm of nearly 10 hectares with many trees and animals, bringing in high income.

After working in Korea for a while, in 2018, he returned to his hometown to start a business. Mr. Tuan invested an initial capital of about 1.2 billion VND to accumulate land by purchasing rubber and cajuput forests and many areas of fields and fallow land in Tan Thuy village, Vinh Thuy commune.

From this land fund, he gradually renovated and planned to build a comprehensive farm including: 7 hectares of small rubber plantations, 2 hectares of cajuput trees, 0.5 hectares of rice fields, 10 breeding cows and 0.3 hectares of freshwater fish ponds.

Sharing his production experience, Mr. Tuan said: “To build a comprehensive model, you should calculate and choose suitable crops and livestock to be able to take short-term and raise long-term, rotating capital sources, while minimizing risks if the market fluctuates in price. It is especially important to pay close attention to managing the import of seeds and disease prevention, especially when more and more diseases appear on some traditional crops and livestock.”

The comprehensive farm was reasonably designed by Mr. Tuan to model forest - pond - barn - linked fields; utilizing and processing livestock waste as fertilizer for crops, thus reducing many costs and limiting impact on the environment.

During the production process, Mr. Tuan strictly followed the application of science and technology in cultivation and animal husbandry. Thanks to that, all crops and animals grew well, giving stable productivity and output.

According to Mr. Tuan, currently at the farm, 2 hectares of cajuput trees have been exploited once. Each year after deducting expenses, 2,600 rubber trees generate an income of about 240 million VND; the cow breeding model produces and sells 10 breeding cows, earning nearly 80 million VND/year. In addition, there is additional income from rice, fish... it is estimated that each year the farm brings his family over 350 million VND.

Evaluating the model of Mr. Le Phuoc Tuan's household, President of the Farmers' Association of Ho Xa town Nguyen Thi Ly added: "Mr. Tuan's combined agricultural and forestry model not only brings high economic efficiency to his family but also contributes to creating jobs for nearly 10 regular workers.

This is one of the pilot models that the Ho Xa Town Farmers' Association actively supports. The Association has organized many field trips for officials and members to learn from experience, and encouraged households with suitable needs and conditions to learn and replicate.

Boldly investing in traditional agriculture on a large scale, creating commercial products, farmers like Mr. Le Phuoc Tuan have exploited and promoted the potential of natural conditions to serve effective production.

This will contribute to promoting and developing rural agriculture in a more diverse and sustainable direction. Not stopping there, Mr. Tuan is planning to continue expanding and developing the farm.

Through research, realizing that the model of raising mountain goats and wild boars for commercial purposes is effective in hilly areas like his family farm, Mr. Tuan plans to raise these two types of livestock in the near future.
