Cars "stuck" in the midday sun

(NLDO) - Thousands of vehicles lined up, causing traffic congestion due to the bottleneck at Gianh Bridge. Quang Binh Traffic Police had to work hard to regulate and direct traffic.

Traffic to Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces after Tet is too crowded, causing serious congestion at Gianh Bridge.

On February 1, the Traffic Police Department of Quang Binh Province Police said that traffic congestion on Gianh Bridge started at around 11:00 a.m. the same day.

The reason is that the number of cars returning to Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces is overloaded after the Lunar New Year. Meanwhile, Gianh Bridge only has 2 lanes, making it difficult for vehicles to move.

To reduce traffic pressure, the Traffic Police deployed 10 officers and soldiers to work at the scene. Among them, there were working groups from the Traffic Police Department of Quang Binh Province, Bac Trach Commune Police, Bo Trach District and Ba Don Town Police to coordinate and guide vehicles, ensuring traffic order and safety.

At the scene, thousands of vehicles were jostling each other, moving slowly on the 500m long road leading to Gianh Bridge. Many drivers honked their horns impatiently, while motorcyclists struggled to find a way to weave through the crowded traffic. Some trucks carrying heavy goods struggled to move slowly because the road surface was narrowed, making the congestion even more serious.

Every time before and after Lunar New Year, Gianh Bridge often experiences congestion, causing traffic jams.

Traffic police were mobilized under the midday sun to regulate traffic and proactively divert traffic from a distance to reduce pressure on the bridge area. However, due to the large number of vehicles, clearing the congestion still encountered many difficulties.

Many locals who witnessed the traffic jam shook their heads in dismay. "Every time before and after Tet, Gianh Bridge is jammed like this. I just hope the new bridge will be completed soon to ease the suffering" - said Nguyen Van T., a truck driver on the North-South route.

Before Lunar New Year, traffic jams at Gianh Bridge in the North-South direction also often occur, especially at the end of the year during rush hours.

Gianh Bridge - traffic "bottleneck" of North Central Vietnam

Gianh Bridge is a vital bridge on National Highway 1, located in Quang Binh province. This is considered a "bottleneck" on the North-South route due to the narrow bridge surface, not commensurate with the expansion scale of National Highway 1. Currently, while National Highway 1 has been upgraded to 4 lanes, the two ends of the bridge and the Gianh bridge surface only have 2 lanes, causing traffic obstruction and potential traffic safety risks.

Faced with this situation, the Ministry of Transport has approved the project to build a new Gianh bridge to solve the traffic congestion problem. The project starts at Km624+799 (in Ba Don town) and ends at Km626+901 (Ha Trach commune, Bo Trach district). The new bridge is nearly 750m long, designed with a road surface width of 12m, including 2 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motorized vehicles, promising to improve traffic capacity in the future.

Currently, the project is implementing the bored pile construction. It is expected that after the Lunar New Year holiday, the Project Management Board will mobilize maximum human resources and equipment, speed up the progress of the pedestal, pier and cantilever sections, in order to soon complete the new Gianh Bridge, solving the long-standing traffic congestion in this area.
