More than a dozen scrap cars of all kinds are being gathered in a yard in a residential area in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province, causing loss of urban beauty and posing other potential dangers.

The location of this scrap car collection site, which has expired, is in a residential area on Con Co Street, in Quarter 1, Ward 2, Dong Ha City. According to residents, scrap cars have been gathered here for about 2-3 years now, initially only a few but now the number has increased.

According to records, there were 11 scrap cars, mainly from 4 to 16 seats, gathered on the sidewalk area and spilled onto the asphalt road in this residential area. In addition, 2 truck frames and fuel tanks were also gathered here. About 100 meters away, the bodies of 3 scrap cars, the truck bodies and the front of the truck were also gathered right at the waste collection area of ​​the environmental company. Most of the cars had broken windows, dented shells, and the interiors were disassembled for spare parts.

According to residents, the scrap car yard not only spoils the urban beauty but also poses many other potential dangers, especially when broken car windows are scattered everywhere. “Children often gather here to play, breaking car windows and scattering them on the road, which is very dangerous for people exercising. Many children even throw pieces of glass into the fields, and residents are worried that they will step on them when they go to work in the fields,” a worried resident said.

Speaking to reporters, Chairman of Ward 2 People's Committee Nguyen Duy Duc said that, based on information he has, these expired cars belong to a household that sells scrap in the ward.

According to Mr. Duc, this week he will direct the ward police and land officials to verify, invite this business household to work, and request the removal of scrap cars to return the site. "This gathering area is on a traffic road and public land, so it is certain that the scrap cars must be removed," Mr. Duc said.

Mr. Duc added that this area has only a few households living there, there is still a lot of vacant land so some people lack awareness and have collected garbage, debris, and even industrial waste. Ward 2 People's Committee has proactively coordinated with Dong Ha Urban Environment Company to send trucks to collect garbage to dump it to restore the street landscape.
