Biden: Every day of being president is a cognitive test

In an interview with ABC News on July 5, President Biden explained his unconvincing debate performance against his opponent Donald Trump at the end of June. He also affirmed that he is still capable of serving the United States despite concerns about his health and clarity at the age of 81.

Biden said the performance was “entirely my fault, no one else’s fault,” but insisted it was just a bad day because he was exhausted and tired from a cold he had picked up on debate day. He insisted the performance was not a sign that he had any serious symptoms.

Mr Biden said he had "doctors monitoring me everywhere I go" and after the debate they told him he was "exhausted" but nothing more serious. "I'm constantly evaluating what I'm doing. They're not afraid to tell me if something's wrong," he said.

Asked directly if he would be willing to take a cognitive test to prove to American voters that he is capable of leading the United States, Mr. Biden said that he "takes a cognitive test every day."

"I have that test every day. I'm not just running for office, I'm running the world , and that's not an exaggeration," he said, emphasizing the schedule of being US president as a daily cognitive test.

Asked if he was confident he could beat Trump, Biden cited his previous record to express his confidence. He also dismissed reports that he would drop out of the White House race this year despite the pressure, saying that "only God can make me quit."

Mr Biden said he did not believe polls showing him trailing Mr Trump in the popular vote, insisting the race was a "toss-up" and that he was "the most qualified person to beat Mr Trump".
