Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the EU Summit in Brussels (Belgium), Prime Minister Orpo said he may ask the EU to help restore the Balticconnector submarine pipeline system and the investigation is focusing on the Chinese ship - suspected to be the "culprit" causing the damage.

“We have a clear picture of what happened,” the Finnish leader said. “Now it is time for us to work with China to investigate the role of their vessels in the area at the time of the incident.”

On China's side, on October 25, the country's Foreign Ministry said that the country is ready to provide necessary information according to international law related to the investigation into the gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea.

Meanwhile, Finnish investigators believe that the anchor of a Chinese container ship was dislodged and damaged the Balticconnector undersea gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia in the Baltic Sea.

Authorities are currently investigating whether it is a Chinese cargo ship.

Earlier this month, the 77km-long Balticconnector pipeline, which lies on the bottom of the Baltic Sea and connects Finland with Estonia, experienced an unusual pressure drop due to a leak.
