Previously, the Japanese Defense Ministry also dispatched fighter jets to monitor two UAVs that they said "may be Chinese" flying between Yonaguni Island and Taiwan on August 25.

Also on August 25, the Japanese Defense Ministry said it had detected two Chinese H-6 bombers flying over the strait between Okinawa and Miyako islands, connecting the East China Sea and the Pacific Ocean , the same morning.

Okinawa is home to one of the largest US military bases in the Asia- Pacific and is at the center of a defense buildup between Japan and the US aimed at preventing China from attacking Taiwan or nearby Japanese islands, according to Reuters.

Taiwan's Defense Ministry said that starting at around 7 a.m. on August 25 (local time), they detected 22 Chinese military aircraft, of which 13 flew into Taiwan's "reaction" zone, but the agency did not provide details, according to Reuters.

By the morning of August 26, Taiwan's Defense Ministry said that in the previous 24 hours, they had detected 20 Chinese air force aircraft flying into the island's air defense identification zone, according to Reuters.
