Previously, on May 8, the iPad Pro 2024 launch advertisement, titled "Crush", had more than 1,000,000 views on YouTube and was personally shared by Apple CEO Tim Cook.

The commercial, titled "Crush," has received more than 1.4 million views on YouTube. Photo: Apple.

This commercial was created with the idea of showing the ability of the latest iPad to replace musical instruments, paints, camera lenses, books, movie characters, sculptures and many other creative items.

However, the message has outraged artists and creators as it contains multiple segments of art tools being crushed by a hydraulic press.

Many viewers criticized the video as insensitive, saying that Apple showed technology was crushing human creative history. This is a very sensitive issue in the context of the creative industry being threatened by AI (artificial intelligence).

Apple's commercial angers viewers

The ad's "drowning" of other products to elevate the value of the iPad Pro has made it offensive. Many social media users have criticized the ad, forcing Apple to immediately apologize.

"Our goal has always been to celebrate the countless ways people express themselves and bring their ideas to life through iPad," Apple's marketing vice president, Myhren, told Ad Age. "We didn't get that right in this video and we apologize."

Apple has decided to stop advertising on social media and also not run TV ads. However, Mr. Tim Cook has not deleted the clip on his social media account X.

In addition to the public apology, Apple also announced that it would withdraw plans to air “Crush” on television.

Some critics say the negative reaction to the ad is a sign that many people are growing tired of Apple, a major advertiser with a long history of working closely with long-standing ad agencies.

This isn’t the first Apple iPad ad in recent years to upset some customers. In 2018, some said they were offended by a scene where a child asks the iPad Pro, “What is a computer?”
