Tens of thousands of jobs available after Tet

Many other companies are also recruiting sewing workers, manual laborers as well as many other positions with no limit on the number of positions. Not to mention, this is also the time when many small family-sized sewing factories of 3-10 people are in need of workers.

I am old and have no skills so some factories refused me but luckily a garment company in Thuan An city ( Binh Duong ) accepted my application with the agreement to provide initial vocational training.

Difficulty recruiting garment workers

Taking a quick look at the recruitment situation in District 12 and Binh Tan, many companies have the need to expand production, open new production lines and are recruiting several hundred workers. Some smaller companies also need to recruit from 20 to 100 people, from workers to team leaders, goods inspectors, machine maintenance with salaries ranging from 8 to 16 million VND.

"The company plans to add a few more production lines, so it needs about 250 workers. The company hopes to recruit skilled workers. It is difficult to recruit unskilled workers for training," said Mr. Le Van Quang, in charge of recruitment at BN Jeans Garment Company (District 12).

According to Mr. Quang, in recent years, recruiting skilled garment workers in Ho Chi Minh City has been quite difficult when competing with neighboring factories in Dong Nai, Binh Duong, and Long An. On the first working day after Tet holiday, many workers also came to the company to inquire, but "most of them are still looking around and have not applied immediately."

To attract workers, the company offers a bonus scheme to support skilled workers with 1.5 million VND for the first month, 1 million VND for the second month and 1.5 million VND for the third month. If workers want to learn sewing, they will be taught the profession for free along with a salary support for the apprenticeship.

Meanwhile, almost all employees of Song Ngoc Garment Company (Binh Tan District) returned to work on the first day. Company union chairman Tran Thanh Son said the company is currently recruiting about 300 more workers for its plan to open four new sewing lines.

"Regarding orders, it is impossible to say for sure, but businesses still have to proactively prepare the necessary conditions in terms of facilities and workers for partners to consider placing orders. If workers are skilled and hard-working, their monthly income will be around 10 million VND or more, but they need to work stably and be familiar with the products to be able to achieve a good income," said Mr. Son.

52,000 jobs waiting for people

A quick report from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City said that the city needs about 52,000 workers after the Lunar New Year 2024. Of which, the trade and service sectors account for 71%, industry and construction 29%, agriculture, forestry and fisheries 1%. About 87% of the recruitment demand is for trained workers, of which 20% are primary level, 28% are intermediate level, 20% are college level and 20% are university level or higher.

Ms. Nguyen Van Hanh Thuc - Director of the Employment Service Center (Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City) - said that the recruitment needs of businesses after Tet increased along with the record of many businesses having production orders returning.

According to registration at this center and other job exchanges, currently 102 businesses have recruitment needs with about 19,300 positions. Recruitment needs are concentrated in the leather and footwear - garment industry at nearly 43%, unskilled labor at 12%, business - management at 11%, information technology at 6%, engineering - mechanics at 5% and other industries at 23%.

In addition, the center also recorded 17,000 job-seeking needs before and after Tet. The job-seeking needs of workers are concentrated in the fields of office administration, general labor, business - management, accounting - auditing, information technology and some other fields.

Ready to support workers

The Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City said it will support connecting workers right at bus stations and train stations. Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center under the department has set up consulting desks and distributed leaflets at the bus stations: Mien Dong, Mien Tay, An Suong and Saigon Station to receive registration and introduce jobs for workers free of charge.

Activities to support workers in finding reputable jobs, limiting the situation of cheating workers through job brokerage from units not licensed to operate employment services.

Dong Nai: More than 90% of workers return to work

Dong Nai Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that most businesses in the area have resumed work with more than 90% of workers returning after Tet. Mr. Le Nhat Truong - Chairman of the Trade Union of Pousung Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Bau Xeo Industrial Park, Trang Bom District) - said that on the first day of work, about 99% of nearly 18,000 workers returned to work. This company recorded a positive signal when it planned to work overtime on the first day of work.

Mr. Dinh Sy Phuc - Chairman of the Trade Union of Taekwang Vina Joint Stock Company (Bien Hoa 2 Industrial Park, Bien Hoa City) - informed that the company started working on February 16 and about 90% of the total of nearly 32,000 employees returned to work on the first day with high spirits after a long holiday.

"Currently, 98% of the workers have returned to work. The company continues to welcome the group of workers from far away hometowns back to work. The union coordinated with the company to give lucky money to all workers who returned to work on the scheduled date with an amount of nearly 6.5 billion VND. And prepared 50 taels of gold to give to the lucky workers who won the prize" - Mr. Phuc said.

According to the Dong Nai Provincial Employment Service Center, about 150 businesses in the area need to recruit more than 14,000 workers, double the same period in 2023, with unskilled workers accounting for 96%. In particular, garment and footwear businesses have resumed recruitment with many attractive welfare policies.

Binh Duong: businesses go out to recruit people

Records in some large industrial parks such as VSIP 1, Dong An 1, Song Than 1 in Binh Duong show that many large enterprises have posted notice boards and have desks to receive recruitment applications. Many people also prepare their applications to submit.

Garment factories have a large demand for unskilled workers. However, only skilled workers are sought after, while unskilled or older workers have fewer opportunities.

Within about 1km of DT743 road (bordering Thuan An and Di An city), there are at least five factories posting recruitment notices, each with a need to recruit from 300 to 1,000 unskilled workers. Leading Star Vietnam Garment Company Limited announced recruitment for many different positions, up to 1,000 people, with reception desks right at the company gates. The businesses promised an income of 8 to 14 million VND/month.

Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Binh Duong, Pham Van Tuyen, said that the synthesis from agencies showed that the rate of workers inside and outside industrial parks returning to work at factories this year was very high. About 94% of businesses and more than 90% of workers returned to work. Businesses outside industrial parks had 90% of workers returning, while the rate for businesses inside industrial parks was more than 91%.

It is forecasted that in the first six months of 2024, businesses in Binh Duong will need to recruit 25,000 - 30,000 more workers, mainly unskilled workers and skilled workers accounting for 80%.
