Mr. Nguyen Luong Ngoc - head of the Green Saigon Club (under the Vietnam Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City) - said that he plans to use robots to collect trash, replacing the need for volunteers to wade into the canal to collect trash.

On March 3, regarding the record of Ho Chi Minh City Youth wading into the canal to 'rescue' Hy Vong, collecting more than 10 tons of trash, Mr. Nguyen Luong Ngoc - head of the Saigon Xanh Club - said that before wading through the canal to clean up trash, the club's volunteers were vaccinated (tetanus, typhoid, cholera...) and wore protective gear to reduce the danger.

In case a volunteer accidentally steps on a sharp object, the club will quickly take them to a medical facility for treatment.

To avoid having to wade through canals to collect trash, Mr. Nguyen Luong Ngoc believes that first of all, we need to change the awareness of those who throw trash in the wrong places. Besides, we need to have replacement equipment.

It is expected that in about 45 days, the Green Saigon Club will launch a trash-collecting robot to replace volunteers having to wade into the canal to collect trash.

Robots will replace volunteers who have to wade into the canal to collect trash.

The above trash-collecting robot is an initiative of volunteers from the Saigon Xanh Club. The development and replication of the trash-collecting robot model is in coordination with units and partners.

"Sai Gon Xanh is trying to launch an automatic garbage collection robot that can replace humans in cleaning up trash, running on solar energy technology, and if it works well, running on AI technology" - Mr. Nguyen Luong Ngoc shared.

Previously, on March 1, Tan Binh District Youth Union and Green Saigon Club (under the Vietnam Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City) organized garbage collection at the box culvert area on Hy Vong canal (Ward 15, Tan Binh District).

Participating were the Ward 15 Youth Union, Tan Binh District Public Service Company Limited and the functional forces of Ward 15. It is estimated that dozens of people from many units participated.

Many volunteers from the Green Saigon Club wore protective gear, waded into the canal to collect trash with the support of many people on the shore to move and collect trash for treatment. After about 3 hours, more than 10 tons of trash accumulated in the above area were collected.

Mr. Nguyen Luong Ngoc said that the club has more than 30 volunteers participating in cleaning up the garbage at the garbage accumulation point above. In the morning, the water in the above area is deep, in the canal there are pieces of pottery, sharp objects, and decomposing animal carcasses with a foul smell...

In the coming time, the Saigon Green Club will coordinate with relevant units to place many trash barriers in the above canal to be able to block the area, manage where the waste is discharged from, and prevent the situation of too much waste flowing to the downstream.

"Sai Gon Xanh hopes that people will pay more attention to environmental issues, dispose of garbage properly, and not litter" - Mr. Ngoc shared.

Ms. Hong Thi Dieu Hien (residing in Tan Phu district) brought some bottles of water to offer to the group of volunteers who were collecting trash. She shared: "I really appreciate what you have done. I find this work useful and meaningful. I hope everyone will be aware of throwing trash in the right place, not littering" - Photo: NGOC KHAI
