News of Sergio Busquets' retirement from football has been circulating in recent days and a few minutes ago, the 37-year-old midfielder confirmed his retirement via his personal page in an emotional video .

“ Hello everyone, I feel it is time to say goodbye to my football career. Almost 20 years of enjoying the wonderful stories that I always dreamed of.

These will be my last months on the pitch. I leave my career happy, proud, satisfied and above all grateful. Thank you all very much. See you soon .”

Busquets ended his brilliant football career with 722 appearances for Barca , winning 9 La Liga titles and 3 Championa League titles. He also helped the Spanish team lift the World Cup title in South Africa (2010).

In 2023, Busquets said goodbye to Barca, moving to the United States to play football with close friend Leo Messi for David Beckham's Inter Miami .

Along with Jordi Alva and then Luis Suarez, the Barca quartet made Inter Miami famous, winning the Leagues Cup and MLS Supporters Shield.

Busquets is retiring amid reports that Messi is close to renewing his contract with Inter Miami, for at least one more season. On the pitch, the captain will certainly miss his close friend – who accompanied him from Barcelona to the US.
