According to PhoneArena , the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is described by Qualcomm as "the first mobile platform meticulously designed with AI (artificial intelligence) in mind." To further confirm, the company ensures it has checked all the boxes in its announcement and says "the platform delivers industry-leading AI, class-leading camera capabilities, studio-quality audio to deliver the experiences consumers want."
New features on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 focus heavily on AI
The company also revealed smartphone manufacturers that will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip in future flagship phones, including Asus, Honor, iQOO, Meizu, NIO, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Redmi, RedMagic, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE. Samsung is conspicuously absent, which may stem from the fact that the Korean company will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip for Galaxy, a separate overclocked variant, on Galaxy S24 series models in certain markets like the US and China.
Compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is 30% faster and 20% more efficient. The chip is manufactured on a 4nm process and comes with 8 CPU cores, including 1 main Cortex-X4 CPU core running at up to 3.3 GHz, 5 "high-performance" CPU cores running at up to 3.2 GHz and 2 power-saving CPU cores running at up to 2.3 GHz. The chip supports LPDDR5x memory up to 4,800 MHz with a maximum of 24 GB; FastConnect 7800 system with Wi-Fi 7 for a maximum speed of 5.8 Gbps; integrated X75 5G 6 GHz and mmWave modem.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 promises to deliver outstanding performance improvements
“Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 infuses AI throughout the system to deliver high performance and superior consumer experiences,” said Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager, mobile handsets, Qualcomm Technologies. “This platform unlocks a new era of creative AI that enables users to create unique content, boost productivity, and other groundbreaking use cases.”
Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be available in the coming weeks. It's unclear what the first product to ship with the chip will be, but it's likely to be the upcoming Xiaomi 14 series.
