Russian President Vladimir Putin sees strengthening economic cooperation within the CIS as a priority when Russia takes over the CIS presidency in 2024. In June, CIS member states signed an agreement on free trade in services and investment, which is seen as a basis for strengthening economic cooperation. The Russian leader affirmed that it is necessary to strengthen industrial cooperation within the CIS to create new joint products, including common brands Made in CIS or Made in EAEU. In important areas, it is better to be independent because self-sufficiency is the basis of sovereignty. Russia will strive to build on the goal of maintaining security and stability in Eurasia through the CIS, creating a mechanism to combat terrorism and extremism, cross-border crime, drug trafficking and corruption. Cultural interaction is another important component of the CIS partnership.

Earlier, at the Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan summit, CIS members signed a Treaty establishing the International Russian Language Organization, headquartered in Sochi, Russia, to protect and promote the Russian language as a key to mutual understanding.
