The geographical indication "Dong Thap" for lotus products is protected to enhance the value and affirm the quality of Dong Thap lotus in the market. The lotus growing area of Dong Thap province currently reaches 1,838 hectares with localities such as Thap Muoi, Cao Lanh, Chau Thanh, Thanh Binh, Tan Hong and Tam Nong having large lotus growing areas.
Dong Thap has long been famous for the image of vast lotus fields in poems and songs, therefore, granting geographical indications for Dong Thap lotus products including fresh lotus seeds (silk lotus), fresh lotus flowers, fresh lotus roots and fresh lotus leaves aims to honor and promote the cultural and economic value of Dong Thap lotus products, at the same time, promoting the development of lotus farming industry associated with local tourism development, along with many impressive cultural and tourism activities.
