On the afternoon of June 22, Colonel Nguyen Dang Chien, Head of the Propaganda Department, Engineering Corps, informed: Currently, due to the water flowing from upstream to the Phong Chau pontoon bridge area with a flow velocity of 2.2 m/s, the water is flowing rapidly, not ensuring the safety of the bridge and people crossing the bridge.

Therefore, from 3 p.m. on the same day, Brigade 249 temporarily suspended the pontoon bridge. When the water recedes and ensures safety, the unit will continue to reconnect the pontoon bridge. "The unit is monitoring the water from the source and will secure (the bridge or ferry) as soon as conditions allow," Dai Nguyen Dang Chien informed.

After the pontoon bridge is temporarily suspended, people can go to Ngoc Thap bridge or Van Lang bridge.

At the end of September 2024, the Phong Chau pontoon bridge was installed by Brigade 249 to serve the people of Phu Tho and neighboring areas across the Red River after the Phong Chau bridge collapsed. Every day, the pontoon bridge carries thousands of people across the river.

A week ago, when the North had heavy rains for many days, the amount of water flowing from upstream caused a large flow rate, making it impossible to ensure the operation of the pontoon bridge. Brigade 249 also temporarily closed the bridge and switched to using military ferries to transport people across the Red River.
