On the morning of June 25, Colonel Nguyen Dang Chien, Head of the Propaganda Department (Engineering Corps) said that Brigade 249 had carried out the task of running the ferry without a load and measuring the water level for inspection.
However, the results showed that the midstream velocity was 3.4m/s, the depth was 5.10m, the river was 183m wide, and it was not possible to use a military ferry to serve people moving across the river.

The river water is flowing rapidly, and for the next few days, Phong Chau pontoon bridge cannot operate again. |
According to Colonel Nguyen Dang Chien, when the flow speed is below 2m/s, the operating unit will reconnect the bridge and when the flow speed is below 3m/s, the military ferry will be put into service.
Currently, the unit continues to monitor the water flow. When conditions permit, it will organize a ferry across the river or put a pontoon bridge into operation as soon as possible.
Colonel Chien said that the strong river currents preventing the Phong Chau pontoon bridge or military ferry from operating during the time students are taking the 2025 high school graduation exam are very regrettable.
"In the next few days, Phong Chau pontoon bridge will not be able to operate again. The unit hopes that parents and students crossing the Red River to take the 2025 high school graduation exam will proactively take the detour to get to the exam sites early," Colonel Nguyen Dang Chien advised.
To move through this area, parents and students can choose alternative routes via Dong Quang bridge, Trung Ha bridge and follow information to update the bridge reopening time.
