Dedicated to choosing the career of educating people: 'I am proud to be a preschool teacher'

The only teacher named Le Cong Su among hundreds of "childcare workers" was awarded the "Outstanding Young Teacher" award by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union 2024 on November 20 this year.

Currently a teacher at Hoa Dao Kindergarten (District 12), but to follow that path, Cong Su had to fight against all obstacles from his family and friends right from the moment they knew he registered for the entrance exam and chose this job.

To be able to take care of, teach, accompany the children, be loved by the children and just hear them call me "teacher" every day in class is the greatest reward for me as a teacher who chooses the profession of "child care worker".

Dedicated to training life skills for children

The 9X "child-rearing teacher" is from the land of steel and copper, Cu Chi (HCMC). Graduated from the Faculty of Preschool Education of Saigon University in 2015, Cong Su passed the civil servant exam and worked at Kindergarten 12 (District 3). After six years of working there, in the 2021-2022 school year, the young teacher has just transferred to Hoa Dao Kindergarten (District 12) until now.

People often just mention "the teacher who raises children", but what can we do when this 9X teacher loves and enjoys playing with children.

Nearly ten years of crying and laughing with preschool children, every day I speak must be an effort to not only be loved by students but also by parents.

In his first year at Hoa Dao, Mr. Le Cong Su won first prize in the city-level competition for excellent teachers with the theme "Building an environment to nurture, care for, and educate children".

But the profession is inherently tied to the teacher, so the teacher herself admits that sometimes she encounters difficulties. Comforting whining students, tying hair to make their faces look prettier, or taking care of every meal and sleep for the little angels, if you don't love and have enough patience, it's hard to stay in this profession.

Care alone is not enough, teachers also have to find many thinking and physical games to help children develop their cognition and life skills.

To prepare the children for first grade, the teacher teaches the students to be disciplined, to know how to take care of themselves in the most basic ways, and to know how to clean up after playing or studying. The teacher also suggests that the school implement a "kitchen for children" with skills lessons to teach children how to pick and wash vegetables, squeeze fruit juice, and make rice rolls... so that children gradually get used to taking care of themselves and helping with housework.

Love the job and be creative

Because of his love and desire to stick with his chosen job for a long time, Cong Su often researches and innovates teaching methods to help students develop their thinking and creativity. At the same time, he develops language skills and stimulates children's curiosity to explore knowledge through the "Fun Science Discovery" lesson.

In this lesson, children speak their minds, ask questions, explore and practice… before the teacher concludes with the most concise and easy-to-understand knowledge. This approach helps the topic "Equipping 5-6 year old children with knowledge to be ready for first grade through learning games" of that kindergarten teacher to be recognized as an innovative experience of the district.

Recalling the early days of his career, Su said many parents were initially surprised, and even disliked having a male teacher teach their children. Parents only saw the teacher clean and tidy when he came to pick up his children every afternoon, but many days when the student was sick, the teacher was holding him, but if the student coughed once, he would vomit all over the teacher from head to toe.

"My work backpack always has a few sets of clothes. When a student throws up, I have something to change into, or when I clean up a child with diarrhea, I have to do the laundry and send it back to the parents in the afternoon. After washing, I'm also soaked, so I've become used to it," Mr. Su laughed.

Mr. Su himself admitted that people seem to be familiar with the image of a kindergarten teacher. Some people have never even known that there are kindergarten teachers. His family and friends still ask him why he chose a job that is difficult, has a low salary and is not a strong point for men.

"But if I could choose again, I would still want to be a preschool teacher. I want to do the job of raising children not only because I love it but also with all my heart to nurture the future buds," Mr. Su confided.

Your children's first best friend

Ms. Le Thi Hanh Loan - Dang Le Bao Chau's parent - boasted that Mr. Su was her child's first preschool teacher, because she did not send her daughter to school until she was 5 years old. When Bao Chau first entered a formal learning environment, she was quite shy, but Mr. Su patiently approached her gently, helping her overcome her anxiety when being away from her parents, and gradually feel more secure.

The teacher patiently explained to me every little thing, whenever I had any difficulties, the teacher was always there to comfort and ask questions, making me feel protected. Ms. Loan said she was impressed with the way the teacher respected the children's feelings, always knowing when the children needed encouragement, when to let them practice independence. The teacher's lessons helped her learn how to get along with friends, to share and respect others.

"Seeing my daughter happy and confident going to class every day, I am truly grateful to Mr. Su. He has contributed greatly to my daughter's psychological and intellectual development in her early years. Not only is he a teacher, he is also her first great friend, helping her build a solid foundation to continue on her journey of learning and growing up," Ms. Loan shared.

Good expertise, dedicated

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy - principal of Hoa Dao Kindergarten - said that Mr. Cong Su has good professional skills and is highly appreciated by his colleagues. He makes good use of software and technology in teaching. The principal praised him for always being enthusiastic, responsible, dedicated and meticulous both in teaching and playing with children. Therefore, many students love him and parents trust him.

"To stimulate children's interest in going to class, the teacher created a classroom environment with vivid colors, funny pictures, and tools and toys that were arranged and displayed vividly and appropriately, creating the best conditions for children to learn and develop their abilities," Ms. Thuy commented.
