According to a VNA correspondent in China, on August 27, the “ASEAN-China Media Dialogue on the AI Era” was held in Nanning, Guangxi (China). The event attracted the participation of many senior media representatives and academic experts from China and countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), focusing on discussions and dialogue on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) as well as exploring the innovative development of media in the AI era.

Nowadays, AI is becoming an important driving force for the scientific and technological revolution and new industrial transformation. AI and other digital technologies related to AI are rapidly penetrating industries.

How to promote the development of media innovation through the “guidance” of AI has become the focus of attention of media in various countries.

Cambodia News Agency representative Yea Chenda Khantey said that AI is not only a technology trend, but also a bridge opening up new prospects and a strong partner in promoting social media.

Cambodia and China have broad prospects for cooperation in the fields of AI and communications. The two sides can build a closer information space and enhance mutual understanding between people through the sharing of experience and technology.

For the media industry, AI technology brings great opportunities such as improving efficiency and innovating the industry, but also brings challenges such as content risks, according to senior journalist Cheong Chiew Yen of Sin Chew Daily, Malaysia's leading Chinese-language newspaper.

“The credibility of news must always be in the hands of journalists. AI can never replace journalists’ responsibility to verify the truth,” said senior journalist Cheong Chiew Yen.

According to Mr. Wang Weichen, Deputy Director of the Media Integration Center, Guangxi Branch of China News Service, AI is currently reshaping the media production chain.

For AI-powered media, “understanding AI technology” is as important as “understanding media methods.” This requires journalists to grasp the technology without forgetting the original purpose of providing information services to readers.

With the motto “service is above all,” media workers must record the times honestly, spread and serve readers.

Meanwhile, referring to the risks and challenges of media in the era of increasingly developing AI technology, Mr. Liao Lingfeng - leader of the Guangxi Satellite TV AI Innovation Center under Guangxi Radio and Television Station - said that it is necessary to be vigilant against the risks of abusing AI technology, including misinformation, copyright disputes and dependence on innovation.

Mr. Liao Lingfeng also said that China and ASEAN can jointly carry out cooperation in many areas, such as jointly developing the "ASEAN-China Multilingual AI System," cooperating in building the ASEAN-China AI Cultural Communication Project, and cooperating in talent training...

In addition, the two sides can jointly build an open and inclusive smart media ecosystem through technological cooperation and governance cooperation to achieve sustainable development.

Meanwhile, Wang Shiyong, Dean of the Institute of Journalism and Communication at Guangxi University, said that for journalism and media, AI is both a powerful support tool and has breakthrough regenerative power.

Not only does it bring about leaps in efficiency and formal innovation, it also raises paradigmatic ethical questions and theoretical challenges.

Mainstream media in the “smart media era” should strive to closely combine “news capabilities” with “artificial intelligence,” to further enhance the depth, accuracy and scope of news reports./.
