Increase total power capacity to meet high growth targets

According to Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW dated August 20, 2025 of the Politburo, Vietnam aims to have a total capacity of power sources of about 183 - 236 GW by 2030, with a total electricity output of about 560 - 624 billion kWh.

After 5 years of implementing Resolution 55 of the Politburo , the energy sector has maintained stable growth, basically ensuring national energy security, meeting the requirements of rapid and sustainable development.

According to the Politburo , the energy sector still has many limitations such as slow progress in implementing many power projects, and energy potential has not been effectively exploited, which could lead to the risk of power shortages during the double-digit growth period.

Therefore, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW dated August 20, 2025, setting the target that by 2030, Vietnam will have a total primary energy supply of about 150 - 170 million tons of oil equivalent, a total capacity of power sources of about 183 - 236 GW, and a total electricity output of about 560 - 624 billion kWh.
