After the merger, Hai Phong Department of Health manages 19 city-level hospitals, 5 regional general hospitals, 2 branches, 7 specialized centers, 6 hospitals under the Ministry of Health , 375 commune, ward and special zone health stations. In addition to the public health system, private health facilities include 13 private hospitals, 89 general clinics, 1,503 specialized clinics, 151 health service facilities, 20 traditional medicine examination and treatment facilities... Recently, information about medical facilities in Hai Phong accessing, using techniques, and successfully intervening in many complicated cases has created a "new breeze" in medical examination, treatment and health care activities for the people.

Up to now, Hai Duong General Hospital has signed comprehensive cooperation agreements with many central hospitals, receiving the transfer of dozens of modern advanced techniques, helping the hospital keep up with the trend, gradually improving the quality of services, meeting the increasing needs of medical examination and treatment of the people. In September 2025, the hospital successfully performed surgery on a complicated brain tumor. Patient Nguyen Thi D., 73 years old, from Hai Hung commune, was hospitalized and was found to have a large meningioma, invading the midline. Because the patient is old and has many underlying diseases, if not operated on promptly, it will be life-threatening.

Currently, the patient is completely awake and walking normally."

As one of the satellite hospitals of the National Children's Hospital, Hai Duong Children's Hospital has a modern and synchronous infrastructure, machinery and basic medical equipment. Many central-level techniques in the fields of emergency resuscitation, emergency surgery, ear-nose-throat surgery, digestive endoscopy, etc. are performed skillfully by the hospital's medical staff. Hai Duong Children's Hospital is the first provincial-level hospital to deploy single-incision laparoscopic appendectomy, which helps shorten the surgery time, minimizes the invasion of the body, reduces pain for the patient, helps the patient regain consciousness sooner and recovers in just 5-7 days.

Also with the technical support of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, to date, Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital has successfully performed 7 kidney transplants. This success demonstrates the high level of expertise of the medical team and the specialized, modern techniques effectively applied at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, helping kidney failure patients reduce the burden of costs, maintain good health, without having to transfer to another facility or travel far.

Over the years, Hai Phong Children's Hospital has made many efforts to access scientific and technical achievements of the medical industry, constantly improving the qualifications and skills of the medical staff, mastering many advanced techniques, and accessing the Central level. Recently, the Council assessed the level and ability to implement techniques in the list of special techniques at the hospital - the Ministry of Health recognized Hai Phong Children's Hospital as qualified to perform artificial heart-lung technique (ECMO) in the list of special techniques.

Comprehensive investment towards regional medical center

According to comrade Le Minh Quang, Director of the Department of Health, after the merger, a major task for the health sector in protecting and taking care of people's health is set. In particular, the synchronous solution to comprehensively develop the health system from the city to the grassroots level is that the first-class hospitals at the city level must ensure that they both perform well the tasks according to the ranked technical list and develop specialized techniques at the central level.

The city has many outstanding mechanisms and policies to improve the capacity of the health sector, such as the Project "Improving the capacity of the public health system of Hai Phong city to 2030" including 6 groups of tasks, 9 groups of solutions, with a total budget of nearly 5,600 billion VND in the period 2024 - 2030. Resolution No. 10 of the City People's Council stipulates specific policies on supporting training, treatment, and human resources in the health sector of Hai Phong city in the period 2024 - 2030, with a total budget of more than 315 billion VND... Notably, the Action Program for the period 2025-2030 of the city's health sector, newly issued, sets the goal of building and developing Hai Phong city to become the medical center of the Northern Coast region, with a modern, high-quality, and effective health system to meet the increasing needs of health care and protection of the people.

The health sector currently has a wide and high-quality network of primary health care facilities, hospitals with high levels of medical science and technology, with a team of good doctors and modern equipment, suitable for the space and development conditions of each unit. Some specialized, key, high-tech medical fields of city-level hospitals are on par with the high-tech specialized centers of the Central Government, and are also satellites of some leading central hospitals; leading the country in marine medicine, marine accident emergency systems, high-pressure oxygen technology, etc.

Significant progress in expertise, infrastructure and support policies are creating a solid foundation for the city to realize its goal of becoming a regional medical center, contributing to improving the quality of life and health of the people.
