Focus on implementing good policies for the elderly

In 2023, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly has successfully completed its assigned tasks, united and unified to build a strong association organization, affirming that the elderly are an important force, participating in contributing to Party building, the political system and protecting the Fatherland. Many activities and events were organized such as: National online conference to disseminate the Resolution of the 6th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee; 4th Conference to commend the elderly with good economic performance in the period 2018-2023; National online conference to disseminate and implement Conclusion No. 58-KL/TW dated June 23, 2023 of the Secretariat on the organization and operation of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly; assessment and classification of organizations and key Association officials at all levels; Elderly Singing Festival at all levels, National Elderly Singing Festival in 2023...

The work of promoting the role of the elderly continues to have many positive changes from Party building, socio -economic development, to the movement of encouraging learning, encouraging talents, disseminating knowledge, preventing social evils, protecting children, and preventing domestic violence. The organization and implementation of policies for the elderly is implemented in a timely and complete manner. 14 provinces/cities have raised the standard level of social allowances and social assistance higher than the standard level; 32 provinces/cities have expanded the beneficiaries of social policies, most of whom are the elderly.

In addition to the above results, the work of the elderly still faces many difficulties. Some local authorities and grassroots organizations have not fully recognized their responsibilities in implementing legal policies for the elderly; the rate of elderly in remote and isolated areas belonging to poor households is high, and support policies are limited, leading to difficulties in health care for the elderly...

In 2024, members of the Vietnam National Committee on the Elderly agreed that ministries, branches and localities should focus on policies for the elderly, the Law on the Elderly, and organize inspections and supervision of the implementation of elderly work in localities. At the same time, promote socialization to develop social work services, support the elderly living at home in the community. The Ministry of Finance ensures funding for the implementation of the Law on the Elderly, strengthen the dissemination of legal education in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, prestigious people, and ethnic minorities...
