It was a tumultuous day for Tudor Pro Cycling's Julian Alaphilippe, who crashed early in the stage and dislocated his shoulder. Instead of waiting for medical help, the 33-year-old tried to reset it himself.

"When I dislocated my shoulder, I felt pain and wanted to wait for the medical staff to come and help me. But I remembered what they did at the hospital and I tried to put my shoulder back in the right position," Alaphilippe said.

After resuming the race, Alaphilippe maintained a great pace and was always in the lead group. Near the finish line, he managed to break away from Slovenian rider Primoz Roglic to cross the line first and, thinking he had won the stage, he celebrated very enthusiastically. At that moment, Alaphilippe took his hands off the handlebars, punched the air and shouted with joy.

But then he was immediately informed of the "shocking news": two riders had already finished before him, Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) and Victor Campenaerts (Visma-Lease a Bike). This meant Alaphilippe only finished... third.

Speaking to the press about the embarrassing moment, Alaphilippe said: "Unfortunately, my radio didn't work after the crash. So I sprinted as hard as I could and I thought I had won the race. I raised my arms like an idiot. That's how it was. I didn't even know who won."

After stage 15, the Tour de France will take a break for a day and the riders will continue to compete in stage 16 from Montpellier to Mont Ventoux, a route of 171.5km. Currently, Slovenian rider Tadej Pogacar leads the yellow jersey with 54 hours 20 minutes 44 seconds.
