Thailand aims to triple farmers' income

Thailand's Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has sought approval for next year's fiscal budget at 411 billion baht ($11.4 billion), three times higher than this year's budget, based on the target of tripling farmers' income by 2028.

Speaking on February 15, Mr. Chantanon Wannakejohn, Secretary General of the Office of Agricultural Economics under the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, said the above budget source is for short-, medium- and long-term plans to increase farmers' income because this is the largest labor group in the country.

Accordingly, the short-term plan will need 81.6 billion baht (2.3 billion USD) to promote agritourism activities, find new markets, solve problems of fisheries, debt and haze pollution. The medium-term plan needs a budget worth 1.4 billion baht (38.3 million USD), including promoting advanced farming technology such as precision farming systems...

The long-term plan will require a budget of 301.9 billion baht ($8.4 billion) to improve water management and crop production, as well as upgrade land ownership for farmers.
