On September 26, the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) officially announced the expansion of the NAPAS Tap and Pay mobile payment service, a modern, convenient and safe payment solution for domestic card users.
In recent years, Vietnam has witnessed a strong explosion of digital technology, especially in the field of mobile payments. According to data from the Ministry of Science and Technology (formerly the Ministry of Information and Communications ), as of July 2024, the country had 120 million mobile subscribers, of which more than 100 million were smartphone subscribers. Along with that, the trend of cashless payments is increasingly becoming the mainstream choice.
The survey shows that 59% of users now prioritize electronic payments in daily transactions. Specifically, 62% use banking applications and websites, 48% choose e-wallets and other payment platforms. These figures clearly reflect the shift in consumer behavior, when people prioritize speed, convenience and security.
According to the State Bank of Vietnam , in the first 7 months of 2025, non-cash transactions increased by 44.40% in quantity and 25.04% in value compared to the same period last year. In particular, transactions via mobile phones increased by 38.34% in quantity and 21.24% in value. Meanwhile, transactions via QR codes increased by 66.73% in quantity and up to 159.58% in value. These figures show the strong growth potential of mobile payments in Vietnam.
In this context, NAPAS has deployed the Tap and Pay service, allowing users to digitize domestic NAPAS cards on smart devices such as phones and watches, thereby making payments by touch, instead of carrying a physical card.
After successfully coordinating the deployment of the NAPAS Apple Pay service in early 2025, NAPAS continues to expand to the Android platform. Currently, in addition to Nam A Bank, customers of VietinBank, Agribank and VietCredit can use the Tap and Pay service on mobile banking applications quickly, conveniently and securely.
The highlight of Tap and Pay is the simple and easy payment feature with NFC (Near-Field Communication) short-range communication technology. Customers only need to add (digitize) NAPAS cards, including debit cards, domestic credit cards and prepaid cards to the mobile banking application to make payments.
The deployment of Tap and Pay not only helps banks and financial companies modernize their services and save on physical card issuance costs, but also increases the frequency of domestic card usage and boosts card issuance sales. With more than 80 million domestic contactless cardholders, this service provides a fast, convenient and secure payment experience.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Minh - General Director of NAPAS affirmed: NAPAS Tap and Pay is an important step in the journey of digital payment in Vietnam. This is a solution suitable for modern consumer trends, especially young people and technology-loving users. Expanding this service will contribute to promoting cashless payments, while improving the experience of domestic card users."
In the coming time, NAPAS will continue to strengthen connections with member organizations to expand Tap and Pay widely. At the same time, the enterprise also promotes the development of digital payment ecosystems in essential areas such as public transport, public services, healthcare, etc. to bring seamless payment experiences to people.
NAPAS deploys Tap and Pay service, allowing users to digitize domestic NAPAS cards on smart devices such as phones and watches, thereby making payments by touch, instead of carrying a physical card.
In fact, in Ho Chi Minh City – a pioneer in integrating modern payments into the public transport network – NAPAS has successfully deployed contactless card payments on metro and buses. The addition of Tap and Pay will make it more convenient for people to travel, encourage the use of public transport, thereby contributing to reducing congestion and protecting the environment.
Through digital payment solutions, NAPAS affirms its pioneering role in promoting comprehensive digital transformation, supporting international integration and contributing to the development of the digital economy in Vietnam.
