Apple designed the MacBook line of laptops with aluminum alloy shells to reduce weight, increase aesthetics and make them more sturdy than using plastic materials. However, the weakness of the metal shell is that it is easily dented when subjected to external forces. In fact, scratches and dents on the computer shell are always a problem for many MacBook users in particular or laptop lines using alloy materials for the shell in general.
In Vietnam, there are currently a number of repair facilities that accept to fix warped and distorted computer cases, especially MacBooks, due to the high demand for this service. However, this technique requires skilled, experienced and specialized people, so not many places accept to do it.

Tuan Anh (an office worker in Hanoi ) said that his MacBook had a dented corner after he put the bag down on the ground. He had searched for months but no facility in Hanoi would accept to fix it, only in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. "In Hanoi, there are people who accept to 'flatten' the dented aluminum so that the laptop can close the lid tightly, but they cannot restore the damaged part to its original state," Tuan Anh shared.
Although the computer's case was dented and warped when the screen was closed, he still accepted to use it because he did not want to send it to addresses in Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang for many reasons. During a recent business trip, Tuan Anh decided to bring the device and "put his trust" in a store shared by members of the MacBook user community group.
After taking it to the store to assess the condition, the technician there said that his device could be restored to almost its original state without removing the case, for only a few hundred thousand VND for a dented location and he could get the device back the same day. When he got his MacBook back at the end of the day, Tuan Anh said he "couldn't believe his eyes" when his aluminum laptop looked brand new as if it had never been hit.
"The dented and warped areas completely disappeared, the dents were filled and rounded exactly like the original, the paint color is also the same," he commented.
According to Mr. Quoc Huy, a mobile device technician (living in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City), restoring aluminum computer cases, especially MacBooks, has been around for a few years but is not popular because the steps are quite difficult and time-consuming. "It's not enough to have enough equipment to do it, it also depends on the skill to turn the machine back to its original state as much as possible," Mr. Huy emphasized.
The owner of a computer "beautification" location in Ho Chi Minh City revealed that restoring a MacBook case requires smooth aluminum powder to fill in the missing or dented areas, which are then fixed with glue and finally painted: "After assessing the damage, the technician will smooth out the warped or missing areas, apply a mixture of aluminum powder and glue to the dented areas to fill them back to their original state, continue to smooth the surface and then proceed to paint." He also confirmed that the new paint color may look similar to the original color, but is less durable and the difference can be seen by changing the viewing angle or light intensity.
"Users who want to protect the paint layer should use clear glue to keep it, avoiding peeling after a period of use. The shell restoration solution is effective for users who do not like to see the device with external problems, but is not a solution to resell the product at a high price because it can still be recognized if observed carefully," this technician advised.
For devices with serious errors such as warping that causes exposed machine parts or broken, crushed shells that risk affecting components, the handler will need to disassemble the device to have the shell pressed and bent again before proceeding to patch up the parts that are missing due to external impact.
