Promoting collective economic development in agriculture

Promoting the spirit of cooperation and association in agricultural production and business, in recent times, the Provincial Farmers' Association has actively participated in developing the collective economy in agriculture. Branches, associations, and cooperatives owned by farmers have made positive contributions to local socio-economic development.

Play a good role as a bridge

In recent times, the Provincial Farmers' Association (FA) has mobilized, guided, and supported the development of collective economic models. Up to now, the Association has supported the establishment of 428 cooperative groups (GGTs), 96 cooperatives with 7,704 farmer members, and built 7 livestock models in the direction of biosafety. The Association has proactively coordinated with relevant departments and branches to effectively implement the Project " Vietnam Farmers' Association participates in developing collective economic models in agriculture until 2030". Based on specific goals, the Association has assigned emulation targets to grassroots farmers' associations to implement; coordinated in organizing propaganda, mobilizing members, farmers, branches, and professional farmer associations to actively participate in GGTs, cooperatives... Up to now, the Association has 727 groups and 170 professional farmer associations.

In order to equip necessary skills in production organization, knowledge of law, economics , trade, especially in the 4.0 era, recently, the Provincial Farmers' Association has coordinated to organize 21 training courses on learning the Law on Cooperatives; improving the management and operation capacity of cooperatives, cooperative groups, professional associations; applying digital technology in production linkage, promoting the promotion and consumption of agricultural products... In addition, the Association has developed a plan to organize 9 conferences to improve business skills on digital platforms to develop brands. Here, cooperatives, cooperative groups, branches, professional farmer associations, good farmer households in production and business... are taught how to set up accounts and operate TikTok Shop, Shopee, plan livestreams and practice livestreaming to sell products... according to the "hands-on" method.

Changing agricultural production thinking

Bold farmers have stepped out of their comfort zone, changing their production mindset from small-scale, fragmented production to large-scale production organization, with links, contracts, traceability and clear market orientation.

Thinh Phong Cooperative, Ban Lau Commune is a typical example. Previously, pineapple and tea trees here grew naturally without care or improvement, resulting in low productivity and yield, low quality of pineapple and tea products. Output for agricultural products encountered many difficulties.

“In that situation, I proactively raised the issue with the local authorities to “knock on the door” of each house, meet each person to propagate and mobilize to change awareness and farming practices. Thanks to that, the area and output of pineapple and Shan tea in the commune have continuously increased over the years. Currently, the commune’s tea area has increased to 2,537 hectares, pineapple area to 1,968 hectares.”

Not only that, the KTTT models not only help strengthen the connection between farming households but also expand cooperation between farmers and businesses, financial institutions, and state agencies. Thereby, creating a closed and effective agricultural production and consumption ecosystem. Binh Minh Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative in Van Phu Ward has cooperated with Hoa Phat Forestry Joint Stock Company, Lao Cai Branch, to sign contracts with households to support seeds (acacia seeds) and consume planted forest wood products in the surrounding localities.

Mr. Phung Binh Minh - Chairman of the Board of Directors, Director of Binh Minh Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative said: The Cooperative also actively participates in the FFF Program (Forest and Farm Facility) and the sustainable forest certification project (FSC). Therefore, the products are guaranteed and exported to a stable market.

The development of collective economic organizations has created a solid foundation for Lao Cai agriculture to gradually shift from self-sufficient production to commodity production, meeting domestic and export standards. From there, the value of agricultural products has increased and people's income has increased. Therefore, propaganda, training, fostering to raise awareness, mobilizing and attracting members and farmers to actively participate; coordinating with relevant departments, branches and sectors to increase support resources, building value chain linkage models, applying science and technology, digital transformation in agricultural production and consumption... are necessary tasks in the coming time for collective economic organizations in agriculture in the province to develop further.
