Tri An Hydropower Plant increases flood discharge through spillway

On the afternoon of October 2, Tri An Hydropower Company said it had increased flood discharge through the spillway to regulate the reservoir.

Accordingly, at 8:00 a.m. the same day, the lake water level reached nearly 61.4m, the water flow to the lake was more than 1,800m³/s, while the water level downstream at the factory was only 5.1m. To ensure flood prevention capacity, from 1:00 p.m. on October 2, the company increased the discharge through the spillway to 640m³/s, double the current discharge level; the flow through the power turbine reached 750 - 820m³/s. The total amount of water discharged downstream was from 1,390 - 1,460m³/s.

Tri An Hydropower Company said that depending on weather developments, water volume in the lake and downstream water level at Bien Hoa Hydrological Station, the unit will continue to adjust the discharge flow.

Therefore, the company has notified the Civil Defense Committee at all levels and local authorities to promptly direct and notify people in downstream areas to proactively prevent and avoid damage.

Previously, at 1:00 p.m. on September 30, Tri An Hydropower Plant released spillway with an initial flow rate of 160 m³/second, then increased to 320 m³/second at 4:00 p.m. the same day.
