The emergency anti-erosion project for Cua Dai beach from Cam An Ward People's Committee to An Bang area will build a system of underground dikes to reduce waves and maintain the artificial beach parallel, 250 - 300m from the shore. This project starts from the end point of the emergency anti-erosion project for Cua Dai beach to the north, about 550m long.

According to the investor ( Quang Nam Agricultural and Rural Development Project Management Board), the project has a total investment of 210 billion VND, the sand source for beach renovation is dredged in Cua Dai area. From the beginning of April 2024, construction of 550m of underground dike line will begin.

It is expected that by the end of July 2024, the entire 550m route will be completed, and dredging and sandblasting will be completed to create beaches at two locations of the project. The project will be handed over for use before August 15, 2024, that is, before the peak of the rainy and stormy season.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tan - Deputy Director of the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Agricultural and Rural Development Works in Quang Nam said that in order for the construction to be smooth and on schedule, it is necessary to have favorable conditions from the people at the location of the last lock welding groin (An Bang beach area).

At the same time, it is necessary for the authorities to create favorable conditions to regulate and ensure safety of inland waterway traffic in dredging areas, temporary wharves and barge movement in the construction area.

Coastal areas that have not been embanked in Cam An ward have always faced the risk of encroachment and erosion. Photo: TUAN CHAU

According to Mr. Dinh Dung - Chairman of Cam An Ward People's Committee, in recent years, Cam An Ward residents have been constantly facing the fear of coastal erosion. The lives and tourism business activities of local people have been greatly affected.

“Two years ago, the province decided to build a sea embankment from Cua Dai to the back of Cam An Ward People's Committee and after the recent storm season, it has been relatively stable. However, the un-embanked part still faces the risk of serious landslides. Recently, local people were very excited when the authorities started the construction of Cam An sea embankment (the section from Cam An Ward People's Committee extending towards An Bang beach)" - Mr. Dung said.

The projects to "rescue" Hoi An beach that have been implemented synchronously in recent times are expected to soon restore and recreate the beauty of Cua Dai and Cam An beaches. Photo: TUAN CHAU

Mr. Truong Xuan Ty - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development informed that since 2022, the Cua Dai emergency anti-erosion embankment project has restored about 1.5km of Hoi An coastline. From 2023, the authorities will continue to implement the project with the solution of underground breakwaters, creating beaches for 1.6km of coastline.

Through the implementation of anti-erosion projects, Hoi An's coastline is gradually being restored and regenerated. There will be another large project from a loan from the French Development Agency (AFD). If the projects are implemented synchronously, Hoi An's sea will basically recover in the near future.
