Ty Quay is considered a "monument" of the Vietnamese comic book industry. Up to now, millions of copies of this series have been printed and reached readers - a very impressive number for a domestic comic book.
Kim Dong Publishing House has just officially released volume 14 of Ty Quay - a classic Vietnamese comic book series, loved and read by many generations of children for nearly three decades.

Reminiscing about mischievous childhood
Carrying nostalgia for his mischievous childhood, artist Dao Hai (1958 - 2014) created a unique comic world revolving around the lives of Ty and Teo - two classmates living in the same apartment complex, very smart but mischievous, with countless awkward, funny situations stemming from their unique pranks.
Behind each story that truly reflects the feelings, thoughts, and psychology of school age, the work always conveys profound, humane lessons and messages about education .
Artist Dao Hai confided: "It is not wise to teach children what to think, but rather to guide children how to think."
Through the world of Ty Quay , he conveyed very "progressive" educational views, which still retain their value today.
With Ty Quay , young readers can find their own image through the hilarious pranks, childish perspectives and reasoning, and actions that may be impulsive, thoughtless, and naughty...
But in the end, it is the students who naturally learn their own lessons and change to progress, without needing dogmatic or stereotypical methods.
It has been 10 years since the day artist Dao Hai passed away, his colleagues have always cherished and devoted themselves to developing the series. Therefore, the books that artist Dao Hai wrote and drew are like a source that flows forever in the pens of those who write and draw the next volumes of this series.
Regarding Ty Quay , episode 14 has just been released, the new highlight is the stories and situations that are imbued with the breath of contemporary society, because the young readers of Ty Quay today are living in an environment with many changes, with the strong impact of technology becoming much more modern than the "first generation" of Ty Quay readers.
As can be seen in this episode, the story of the flex trend to its last breath, the explosion of e-commerce and the negative aspects of "online shopping".
Besides, there are still stories about love for family, friends, pets, humorous situations about studying, exams, school... that have made the "brand" Ty Quay for nearly three decades.
Preserving the spirit of Vietnamese comics
Journalist Duong Thuy Quynh - who has the chance to write the lyrics for Ty Quay episodes 12 and 14, shared that Ty Quay 's ideas often come from many real stories in contemporary life, and at the same time, the process of composing skits for "Childhood Humor Corner" on Voice of Vietnam also helped her have more materials to build the script.
However, with Kim Dong Publishing House's very high demands on content and ideas, she and the editors had to work for many years to be able to build a satisfactory script, selecting the most unique details.
Regarding the paintings, artist Nguyen Quang Toan has always devoted all his efforts and carefulness to each stroke and frame to both preserve the soul of the story and breathe into it the breath of today's life.
The Ty Quay series will continue to release new episodes in the future. (Source: Kim Dong Publishing House) |
Journalist Duong Thuy Quynh shared: "When writing the lyrics for Ty Quay , I always consider respecting the original work and preserving the soul of this book series to be the most important thing.
Then I put myself in the children's shoes to write in a way that is as close to the child's psychology as possible. I observe them talking to each other and pay attention to their reactions to events in life.
After each episode, I often ask for feedback from young readers so I can improve the following scripts.
I think I am both a continuation of the stories, preserving the essence of Ty Quay built by artist Dao Hai, and a co-creator.
If you want others to laugh, you have to be the one to laugh first. While writing Ty Quay , I wrote and laughed at myself many times, and when I read it again, I still laughed again.
The series Ty Quay will continue to release new episodes in the future, just like the source of Vietnamese comics is constantly being continued and expanded, weaving a colorful picture of childhood for generations of Vietnamese children.
