Continue to respond to floods in Thanh Hoa

Nghe An suffers historic flood after storm Wipha

In recent days, due to the influence of storm No. 3, heavy rains and floods have occurred in Nghe An, Thanh Hoa and some localities in the North. This weather condition will last until the night of July 25. In the North, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An continue to have moderate to heavy rain, with some places experiencing very heavy rain of over 200mm.

Faced with that situation, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has issued a telegram requesting the People's Committees of provinces and cities in the affected areas to urgently implement response measures.

Localities need to focus on overcoming the consequences of floods, closely monitor weather developments and promptly notify people. Check riverside areas, low-lying areas, and areas at risk of flash floods and landslides; clear the flow, and evacuate people from dangerous areas.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment also requested to control traffic at deep flooded and fast-watered areas; not allowing people or vehicles to pass through when unsafe. Along with that, check and protect dykes, reservoirs, and construction works. Proactively drain water, protect residential areas, production areas, and essential infrastructure.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the Northern and North Central regions, especially from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An, have experienced very heavy rains due to the impact of storm No. 3 (Wipha) and the post-storm circulation. From July 26, widespread rains have tended to decrease but there are still localized heavy rains. The Central region is still experiencing thunderstorms in the late afternoon and night, especially Nghe An to Ha Tinh, which need to be on guard against the risk of flash floods and landslides.
