A report recently released by US Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Avril Haines has stressed that the disputed border area shared by India and China will continue to strain bilateral relations. Sporadic encounters between the two countries’ militaries risk miscalculation and escalation into armed conflict.

Nearly 50,000 troops from each side are stationed in the area, and India has made it clear that bilateral relations cannot be normalized until there is peace and tranquility in the border areas, the Hindustan Times reported.

The report also pointed out China's ambitions to establish military bases abroad, particularly in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. According to the Hindustan Times, this move is seen as part of China's broader strategy to project power and protect its interests beyond its borders.

On India-Pakistan relations, the US intelligence report warned that any provocation from Islamabad could lead to armed conflict between the two neighbors.
