Ho Chi Minh City announces new board of directors for Center for Disease Control

Ho Chi Minh City officially established a new Center for Disease Control, merging three regional CDCs of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.

On September 4, under the chairmanship of Associate Professor, Dr. Tang Chi Thuong - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , the Department of Health awarded the decision to appoint the Board of Directors of the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC).

This event marks an important turning point when the three disease control centers of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau officially merged into one unit.

According to the decision, BSCK2 Nguyen Hong Tam holds the position of Director of HCDC. Also taking on the task are 8 deputy directors: MSc. Dr. Nguyen Kieu Uyen, BSCK2 Nguyen Viet Dien, MSc. Dr. Le Hong Nga, BSCK1 Nguyen Ngoc Thuy Duong, PhD Vu Xuan Dan, BSCK2 Ngo Hong Quang, BSCK2 Nguyen Van Len and BSCK2 Ha Van Thanh.

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Tang Chi Thuong affirmed that the merger is not only an organizational change but also opens up the opportunity to build a united collective, capable of shouldering great responsibilities in preventive medicine work.

In the short preparation time, the units coordinated very well, supporting each other to ensure smooth work. This is the foundation for HCDC to soon stabilize and develop sustainably.

The Director of the Department of Health also said that the city will continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions in terms of regimes and policies for the staff. He hopes that with consensus and sharing, the new HCDC team will not only meet the requirements of Ho Chi Minh City but also aim for regional stature.

On behalf of the new board of directors, BSCK2 Nguyen Hong Tam would like to express his deep gratitude to the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the Department of Health for entrusting him with this important responsibility.

He shared that in the context of Ho Chi Minh City being oriented to become a super city, a regional economic and financial center, ensuring health security and effective disease prevention is a vital task to keep the city peaceful and developing.

The Director of HCDC pledges to devote all his abilities and efforts to building HCDC into a united, strong collective, constantly improving its capacity, and successfully completing all assigned tasks.

HCDC is responsible for disease control, protection and improvement of the health of the city's people.

Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control was established under Decision No. 992/QD-UBND dated August 28, 2025 of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, on the basis of merging three disease control centers of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.

The merger aims to form a single headquarters, tasked with disease control, protection and improvement of the health of the city's people.

According to regulations, HCDC is under the direct and comprehensive direction of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, and is also subject to the guidance and professional inspection of the Ministry of Health. During the handover of personnel, finance and work records, HCDC is required to ensure smooth, continuous professional operations without interruption.

With the new leadership and solidarity from the three merged units, HCDC is expected to become a solid "shield" of the preventive medicine sector, contributing significantly to keeping the city safe and healthy on the path of development.
